2012 Farmers Insurance Open Picks
This week the tour travels to beautiful California for the 2012 Famers Insurance Open. The tournament is played at the legendary Torrey Pines. The players will play the North and South Course on either Thursday or Friday and once the cut is made, Saturday and Sunday will be played at the South Course (which is the host course).
Everyone remembers Tiger’s 2008 U.S. Open Victory at the South Course in a thrilling Monday Playoff against Rocco Mediate. The South Course is the longest course on tour and is played from 7700 yards. The North Course is played from almost 1000 yards less at 6,874 yards. It is fair to say the players in the field this week definitely have to capitalize when they play the North Course on either Thursday or Friday.
Below are my top three picks given the odds for this years Farmers Insurance Open:
1) Nick Watney (15/1) – Nick won this tournament in 2009 and he has four top 10’s in seven appearances here. With his all around superb game he definitely has to be one of the favorites coming into this week. Nick is really looking to have a strong year and emerge as one of the best (if not THE best) players on tour.
2) Bubba Watson (27/1) – Bubba is the defending champ here at the Farmers Insurance Open and is looking to continue his strong play after a great 2011 season. Bubba often leads in driving distance in the tournaments he plays in so any course that plays long definitely favors the unorthodox swinging left-hander. Bubba will be around come moving day, Saturday.
3) Charles Howell III (25/1) – Charles is off to a great start in the early goings of the 2012 season. Two weeks ago at the Sony Open in Hawaii Charles finished T2 and was striking the ball very pure. Last week he did not fair as well with a T49, however he still led the field in birdies made (14). Charles is coming off some swing changes last year and its starting to look like they are really coming together. Also, despite Charles skinny 155 lb. frame, distance is never a problem with this little guy at a course that definitely demands it.
There you have it – three picks for this weeks tournament, all with pretty good odds. $10 bettors are looking at winnings of anywhere from $150 to $250 if we hit one of our picks.
