White Sox World Series Odds
2009 Article:
After the 2008 season, one in which the White Sox made the postseason, they embarked on a semi-rebuilding process in hopes of becoming World Series Champions again in 2009. Chicago let go of veterans Ken Griffey Jr., Joe Crede and Orlando Cabrera, allowing players within the White Sox organization take of the new roles. Alexei Ramirez is being moved to shortstop, his natural position, to allow Chris Getz to take over at 2nd base. However, expect top prospect Gordon Beckham to take over this position in the near future. Josh Fields will take over at 3rd base and centre field will be manned by either Brian Anderson or Dwayne Wise. The White Sox kept most of their core together with Jermaine Dye, Paul Konerko, AJ Pierzynski and Carlos Quentin. The White Sox pitching staff should remain fairly effective, led by Mark Buehrle and youngsters Jon Danks and Gavin Floyd. The bullpen, which was a strong point for the White Sox in 2008, did not lose any major arms, and should still remain quite dominant, and hopefully result in a World Series Championship.
When considering the Chicago White Sox Odds of winning the World Series in 2009, they have a better chance then most other teams. Though the Sox are somewhat rebuilding their roster, in my opinion they will still have a great shot to make the 2009 World Series. This is due to an excellent balance of veterans on the roster, as well as a solid pitching and an excellent bullpen. Right now, the Chicago White Sox are listed at odds of +2500, which means for every $100 bet placed on the team, a total of $2600 would be won. At those odds the Chicago White Sox would be an excellent team to lay a bet on as I believe the odds are quite high for a 2008 playoff participant. I was expecting odds closer to the range of the Detroit Tigers, at +2000. Also, if they were to make the postseason, the White Sox have a good amount of playoff experience on their roster, an advantage they have over many teams in the MLB. Chicago also is within a very competitive AL Central, and have as good a chance as any of winning the division. Considering the odds given to other teams in their division, such as the Tigers and the Indians, and it being very possible the White Sox are the best team in it, they deserve a good look at odds of +2500.
