The 2008 Tampa Bay Ray team surprised a lot of people going from the last place team in the strong AL east division to winning the division, and also the AL pennant. Betting on the Rays last year to even win the division would have paid out a very nice amount. 2009 will be a tough year for the Tampa Bay Rays as they have to live up to last year’s success. To make it harder division rivals New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox both have added key players to make their lineup even stronger. The Tampa Bay Rays have a solid pitching rotation with James Shields, Scott Kazmir and ALCS MVP Matt Garza all returning. Young pitcher David Price and Andy Sonnanstine are most likely to complete the rotation for the 2009 season. In order for the Tampa Bay Rays to have another shot at winning the World Series in 2009 they will need their young batting lineup to perform like they did last year. If players like Evan Longoria, B.J. Upton and Carlos Pena continue their ways at bat I really like the chances of the Tampa Bay Rays finding themselves back in the playoffs in 2009.

When looking at the division the Tampa Bay Rays are in with the Yankees and Red Sox you would think the odds of them winning the World Series would be set a little higher (+2600 is what I was predicting).
