2010-2011 Miami Heat Championships Odds Article (written August 1st):
Coming into the off-season this year we all knew that there would be a lot of talent on the market, but not many of us expected the Miami Heat to make such a huge splash. Pat Riley took a massive risk this off-season by unloading all of the players from his team basically and signing a ton of new contracts. At one point Riley only had one player under contract, but now he has filled up most of the roster spots and added the top 3 free agents to his team.
The Miami Heat was successful in resigning the face of their franchise in Dwayne Wade this off-season but they weren’t even close to being done. The organization has also signed superstars Lebron James from the Cavaliers and Chris Bosh from the Toronto Raptors. There was a ton of media attention focused on where Lebron was going to end up this off-season and most people expected him to go to the Bulls or to stay in Cleveland.
Although having the best trio in the league, Miami still needed to find some strong candidates to fill out the remaining spots in their roster. Miami has been keeping busy this entire month and have made some very impressive signings. The biggest signing for the Heat apart from the big three above was definitely Zydrunas Ilgauskas who’ll be the starting centre. With Bosh and Ilgauskas jamming up the middle they should do fine gathering rebounds and easy baskets.
Udonis Haslem was also a really important resigning for the Heat this year, as he brings a ton of energy to the table every single night. Haslem took a pay cut in order to stay with the team, but all he cares about is winning a championship ring. I’m glad he made the right decision to stay with the Heat and I really hope he can win the ring he really wants. Other players that will be looking to play their role this season include Joel Anthony, Carlos Arroyo, Mario Chalmers, Mike Miller and Juwan Howard.

The Miami Heat is easily the favourite to win the NBA Championship heading into the 2010-2011 campaign. With the talent on the team they definitely should be favoured, but +180 aren’t the greatest odds for a wager that is so hard to win. If the team can play together and superstar trio can share the ball amongst themselves without caring about personal stats then I’d expect the Heat to win the Eastern Conference and make a strong push in the playoffs.
Los Angeles Lakers are going to be the biggest competition for the Heat this year and these two teams will most likely meet in the playoffs if everything works out like it’s supposed too. The Lakers are fresh off of an NBA Championship and will be looking to repeat this year. Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest and Derek Fisher are going to provide the Lakers with a great team, but will it be enough to match-up against the best players in the league?
