Original Article: Well the Stanley Cup playoffs are around the corner and the Edmonton Oilers are in a tight playoff race for one of the last spots in the Western Conference. When writing this article the Oilers have 8 games remaining and sit tied for 9th place with the St Louis Blues. Although the Oilers were on a roll, they have recently lost three straight and face the Anaheim Ducks tonight, which is a huge game because of the standing impact it could have. If the Oilers do make it into the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs they have a team built for playoff hockey. The Oilers lineup includes grinders that can score such as Penner, Cole and Staios and speedy goal scoring forwards such as Hemsky, Horcoff, Ganger, Kotalik and Cogliano. The Edmonton Oilers have some solid defenseman that include Sheldon Souray, Tom Gilbert, and Denis Grebeshkov and are equipped with Dwayne Roloson in between the pipes, who has been performing well all season. In order for the Edmonton Oilers to make a run in the playoffs (if they squeak in) their defense and goaltending will need to be outstanding to hold off Western Conference horses such as Detroit and San Jose.
