Original Article: With the NHL narrowing down towards the playoffs, the Philadelphia Flyers have developed good odds on winning the Stanley Cup for 2009. With a record of 40-23-10 and 90 points the Flyers currently sit in 4th position in the Eastern Conference. With nine games left in the season, the Flyers are trying to lock up home ice advantage for the playoffs. Helping the Flyers with this is London native, Jeff Carter. Carter has a tally of 41 goals this season giving him 75 points on the year. The center man has shown a great amount of dedication to his game this past year and is only 9 goals away from the 50 goal mark. Also helping up front is Mike Richards (74 pts) and Simon Gagne (69 pts). The Flyers go into this year’s playoffs with the same strategy of playing with grit and toughness. Once nick named the Broad Street Bullies, the Flyers have managed to rack up 1278 minutes to lead the league in penalties in the 2009 season. Starting in the goaltender position for the playoffs will be Martin Biron, who has played 48 games this year. With 24 wins on the year for Biron, he has managed to create a 2.72 GAA with two shutouts. The question now is, With all the penalties the Flyers take, will their defense and goaltending be strong enough throughout the playoffs? If the Flyers can stay out of the box, they may be able to make a run at winning the Stanley Cup for 2009.
Currently the odds for the Philadelphia Flyers to win the Stanley Cup are placed at +1600. These are slightly high odds for the position that the Flyers are in. With possible home ice advantage, a powerful first line, and hot goaltending the Flyers could make an impact on the 2009 playoffs. With the odds set at +1600 a $100 bet on the Philadelphia Flyers to win the Stanley Cup would pay out $1700 dollars. This is a risky bet, however very profitable if the Flyers can stay out of the box and get consistent scoring from their top two lines. Betting on Philadelphia to win the Stanley Cup would be a lot of fun to watch if they do well.
