The Washington Capitals have been an offensive force again, especially in the goal department with 238 goals for making them second in the league. Of course again leading the league in goals is former Rocket Richard winner, Alexander Ovechkin who just hit the half century mark for the second year in a row. Ovechkin who has been a dominant force in the NHL this year, sitting currently third in the NHL with 95 points, will try and lead the Washington Capitals to winning the Stanley Cup for 2009. Expected to produce in the playoffs will also be second year player Nicklas Backstrom (76 pts) and Alexander Semin (70 pts). Backstrom has had another tremendous year coming off of an excellent rookie season. Semin has only played in 55 games this year sitting out with some injuries but has still managed to produce 70 points. The Washington Capitals have developed great odds for winning the Stanley cup this year especially with the strong play from Mike Green who leads the NHL for all defensive players with 28 goals and 64 points. Standing in the goal crease will be Jose Theodore who since December 23, 2008 has posted a 20-9-3 record with a 2.57 GAA, and a .911 save percentage. The goaltending could be considered a weakness in the play of the Washington Capitals, however Theodore has stepped up his game and wants to prove he can be one of the best goalies in this league.
