Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers Pick – KBO July 19, 2020

The Doosan Bears and Kia Tigers will close out their three-game series on Sunday at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju. The Bears eased past the Tigers by a score of 6-0 on Saturday. There weren’t any problems for the Bears from the plate or mound. Choi Won-joon was the player of the game for the Bears.

He went 5 innings with no runs allowed against the Tigers on the road. The Tigers took care of the Bears the day before with a 4-2 win, so it’s rubber-match time on Sunday. The Bears maintain a 5.5-game deficit behind the NC Dinos with the win. The Dinos were winners as well yesterday, along with the Heroes, so everybody holds pat.

The Bears are the defending Korean Series winners. They swept the Kiwoom Heroes last year and are looking to defend their title in 2020. The Bears can but I think they have more company to worry about. The NC Dinos weren’t in the equation last season. They went 73-69-2 and weren’t relevant until this season.

For those that just started following the KBO this season, they probably believe the Dinos have been the class of the KBO. Nope, that’s not the case. The Dinos just started playing baseball in 2013. Incredibly in just their fourth season, they went to the Korean Series. The Dinos didn’t win, but it was an experience for a young club.

The Bears swept the Dinos that season, and they’ve also beaten the Dinos in two other playoff series. Maybe this is the season that the Dinos finally get over the hump and slay the Bears. The Kia Tigers have the most Korean Series championships, with 11 of them and a record of 11-0 in the Korea Series.

They last won the KBO title in 2017, so they’ve taken a break the last couple of years. The Tigers have looked nothing more than a mid-tier club in 2020. They head into Sunday with a record of 33-28. Lee Min-woo is expected to be the first pitcher to touch the rubber for the Tigers on Sunday. Lee Young-ha is expected to counter for the Bears. Head below for our free Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers pick for July 19, 2020 in the KBO.

  • Under 11 (-105)

Doosan Bears vs. Kia Tigers Prediction:

The Bears were confident that Lee Young-ha was going to be able to build on his success from last year. After posting ERA’s of 5.55 and 5.28 in his first two seasons, Lee was solid with a 3.64 ERA last season. However, he’s been unable to improve on that and is back on the wrong track. Lee owns an ERA of 5.86 and 1.83 WHIP in 12 games.

He has been going through major issues recently. Lee has allowed at least 4 earned runs in five of his previous six outings. In his previous two starts across 11.1 innings, Lee yielded 8 earned runs and 15 hits. This should be an opportunity for the Tigers to do some damage at home in the series finale.

Doosan are ranked first in the KBO with a team batting average of .302. They will have the privilege of facing Lee Min-woo again on Sunday. The first meeting didn’t go well, as Min-woo was slapped with a 6.75 ERA in 6.2 innings of work. His other matchups haven’t been much better.

Min-woo has a 5.11 ERA and 1.38 WHIP going into today. After posting ERA’s of 7.17 and 5.43 ERA the last two years, primarily out of the bullpen, he’s been working in the starting rotation because of depth issues. This isn’t the best matchup for Min-woo on Sunday. The Bears should be able to get to him again in this one. I’m on the OVER 11 in what should be a high-scoring contest.
