Doosan Bears vs. Kiwoom Heroes Pick – KBO July 1, 2020

The Kiwoom Heroes made sure the Doosan Bears were buried yesterday in the first game of their series. They poured the runs on late to score 6 in the bottom of the 7th to take a 11-1 lead on the Bears. After scoring a run in the top of the 1st inning, the Bears were lifeless until putting up a meaningless score up on the board in the final frame.

The Heroes are a really good team. I’ve been talking them up throughout the season, and they showed why I have been excited about the Heroes versus the Bears. With the win for the Heroes and Dinos’ loss, the Heroes are just 2 games back of the NC Dinos now. They are 2.5 games up on the Bears heading into Wednesday.

The 31-18 Heroes will take on the 28-20 Bears in this one. This is a rematch series of the Korean Series from 2019. The Heroes extracted a small dose of revenge on the Bears on Tuesday. They got some frustration out of their system and delivered a blowout over the Bears. The Heroes are winners in three straight games and in 11 of their previous 12 games. They’ve overtaken the Dinos as the hottest squad in the KBO.

Everyone is still on the Dinos’ express while ignoring what the Heroes have been doing recently. The Dinos lost a wild one against the Lotte Giants at home yesterday. It was back and forth with the Giants outlasting the Dino for a 10-8 win in extras. The Dinos had the bases juiced with 1 out and failed to convert in the bottom of the 10th. For about two weeks, the Dinos have looked a lot more beatable than they were to open the year.

The Bears are the defending champs and teams must respect that, but their record of 28-20 indicates some up and down spots. Their pitching hasn’t been as consistent than in 2019. Nothing went their way on Tuesday, though. From the offense to the pitching, the Bears were completely outclassed in that matchup.

Lee Young-ha will get the call to try to cool the Heroes’ bats off today. The 22-year-old has been a major disappointment after playing a critical role in the Bears’ rotation last season. Han Hyun-hee is expected to get the nod for the Heroes at home. Head below for our free Doosan Bears vs. Kiwoom Heroes pick for July 1, 2020.

Doosan Bears vs. Kiwoom Heroes Prediction:

Yoo Hee-kwan didn’t have a bad start for the Bears on Tuesday. Sure he could have been better, but he kept the Bears in the game. Yoo allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs across 5 innings on the bump. The bullpen was throwing out batting practice in the 7th inning, though. Lee Kyo-joon had a short stay in the ballgame after he was hammered for 3 earned runs without recording an out.

Lee Young-ha looks to regain in 2019 form with a solid performance today. Lee set a career-high with an ERA of 3.64 and 1.28 WHIP in his first season a year ago. He’s been regressing hard this season and has a tricky matchup versus the hot Heroes on the road in this one. Lee has a 6.29 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in nine starts across 48.2 innings. Lee is coming off three brutal performances and can’t afford another bad start.

He’s allowed 18 earned runs in his previous 14.2 innings of work. That includes 31 hits as well for a pretty frustrating stretch of action for Lee. All three of those outings were on the road, and he gets no breaks for his next start today. In six starts on the road in 2020, Lee has gotten torched for an ERA of 8.47. He also carries a 2.19 WHIP going into this one. It’s hard to expect too much from Lee against the Heroes here.

I do think that the Bears’ offense can get something going on Wednesday, though. They didn’t look like it yesterday, but this is the same team that is first in the KBO with a team batting average of .294. The Bears know how to score runs despite their shortcomings in the first game against the Heroes. Han Hyun-hee has an ERA of 4.38 and 1.42 WHIP this season. He’s largely been hit and miss throughout his career, as a solid mid-tier option in the KBO. Han has a career ERA of 4.13 and 1.33 WHIP, so this season is almost right on par. I’ll take my chances with the OVER in this spot at the Gocheok Sky Dome.
