Monday is typically dark in the KBO, and baseball for that matter in East Asia, but every game in the league was washed out yesterday due to bad weather. The NC Dinos and LG Twins tried to get their game in, but had to stop after a couple of innings. They tried really hard to get things in. There was a delay before the first pitch, and they started playing likely a bit too early.
There was still rain in the area and it started raining hard shortly thereafter. It didn’t make any sense to get going and waste the starting pitcher’s arms. Koo Chang-mo didn’t seem to have his same form yesterday and that might have been because of the conditions. He won’t be available on Monday, so starting that game hurts the Dinos in the end.
The Bears and Giants didn’t get their game off the ground at all. There is going to be rain in South Korea again on Monday, though it doesn’t appear like it will be a complete washout, with pockets of rain and possible delays. If there’s any day to have a complete rain out, it’s on Sunday because of the fact that Monday is an empty day and every game can just get pushed back.
Some pitchers are having their starts pushed back to today, while other teams are going to their next option in the rotation. The Bears and Giants are expected to push Lee Young-ha and Jang Won-sam back to Monday. This is the series finale after a 10-5 win for the Bears on Friday and 5-4 for the Giants on Saturday. It was an impressive response by the Giants. They nearly let things slip away in the 9th inning, but managed to hold on. If you’re new to the KBO, the final inning has a tendency to get a bit wild.
The Bears enter Monday with a record of 34-24. The defending champs are trying to keep pace with the NC Dinos at the top of the standings, but it hasn’t been easy. Doosan are 5.5 games behind the Dino for the top spot in the KBO. They’re currently a half game back of the Kiwoom Heroes for second. The Bears look like a postseason team, though look a bit vulnerable. The Giants were red-hot to open 2020 and have since regressed and stabilized. They are looking at a record of 27-29 heading into today. Head below for our free Doosan Bears vs. Lotte Giants pick for July 13, 2020 in the KBO.
Doosan Bears vs. Lotte Giants KBO Baseball Betting Odds:
Doosan Bears vs. Lotte Giants Prediction:
As I stated, the Bears and Giants are just pushing back their scheduled starters from yesterday. Everyone in the rotation will be pushed back a day for the Bears and Giants. Veteran Jang Won-sam was roughed up in his first meeting against the Bears in 2020. He was torched for 10 hits and 5 earned runs in 3 innings on the hill.
Jang recorded a 15.00 ERA and 3.67 WHIP in that particular showing on May 12. Since that game Jang has made just two starts, which resulted in an ERA of 7.50 against the NC Dinos and 3.00 ERA against the Eagles. Jang has been well below average with a ERA of 7.20 and 1.60 WHIP on the season.
Heading into this season, Jang notched an ERA eclipsing 5.00 in four straight years. It’s been since 2014 when Jang recorded an ERA of 4.11 that he had respectable numbers. The last two years, Jang posted an ERA of 6.16 and 7.98. Jang entered the KBO in 2006, so he’s a veteran that is just trying to earn a couple more paychecks in the league.
The 37-year-old is likely on his last leg in the KBO. The Giants would love to replace him with something better at the trade deadline or for next season. Dan Straily was their big offseason acquisition this past offseason. We’ll see if they can pull something off like that again.
The trade deadline is quickly approaching in the KBO. As it stands now, it’s unlikely that Jang will have a pleasant day against the Bears. That will ultimately hurt his chances of staying in the rotation, and probably promoting the Bears to look elsewhere on the market at the deadline.
Despite no traction on Friday, the Bears are first in the KBO with a team batting average of .301. Lee Young-ha should expect to see plenty of run support on Monday, which he might need to get a win. Lee has been more of a liability than anything else for the Bears.
Lee has posted a 5.79 ERA and 1.85 WHIP in 2020. In his previous four games, Lee has surrendered at least 4 earned runs in four out of his previous five performances, three of which were on the road as a visitor. With Lee and Jang on the bump, we should expect to see a healthy dose of runs on the scoreboard. Rain delays could most certainly hurt the pitching staffs as well.
