Taking a break from my normal Rakuten Monkeys vs Uni Lions pick, today we focus on the matchup between the second and third place teams in the CPBL.
The Chinatrust Brothers are white-hot right now!
Having won 5 straight ball games and 9 of 11, the Brother Elephants are quickly gaining ground on the Rakuten Monkeys for first place in the CPBL.
We're about three-quarters through the first half of the season!! LET'S CHECK OUT THE STANDINGS!
The @CTBC_Brothers are taking a peek ?? at the No. 1 spot after a 5-0 week!! They will visit the @RakutenMonkeys this weekend for a 3-week series!!@FubonGuardians #UniLions #CPBL pic.twitter.com/G0ak4zLY50

Chinatrust is tied with Rakuten in the win column with 19 and has lost just two more games than the defending champs giving them a record of 19-15.
- The Brothers are second in the league behind the Monkeys in batting average and runs scored.
- The Brothers are #1 in the league in ERA and strikeouts.
Their pitching staff has been outstanding in this juiced ball year for the CPBL.
The baseballs will not be un-juiced, if that’s even a word, until the halfway point of the regular season.
It appears, though, as if officials have already taken some of the pop out of the baseballs because we haven’t seen as many 15+ run ball games over the past month as we did earlier in the season.
The Brothers last game was on Sunday when they got a huge 9-8 victory over Rakuten.
The Guardians were rained out on Sunday but they won their game on Saturday over the Lions.
I am not quite sure but I know two outstanding pitchers will be taking the mound so maybe we can look to go under the run total.
BetOnline.ag has the betting odds for us today.
Let’s get to our predictions for the CBPL game between the Chinatrust Brother Elephants vs the Fubon Guardians.
Chinatrust Brothers @ Fubon Guardians
Taking the mound for the favored Fubon Guardians is league ace and possibly the greatest pitcher in the history of the CPBL, Mike Loree.
Mike started the season a little late so he only has 3 starts under his belt thus far in 2020.
He won his first two appearances vs the Rakuten Monkeys fairly easily.
14 innings, 14 strikeouts, and 4 earned runs.
Next up, he tried his hand against the up and down dangerous 7/11 Lions.
He barely made it three innings. Mike gave up 5 earned and even walked his first batter.
I expect Loree to rebound. I’m not sure what happened against the Lions but I do know they are the streakiest hitting team in the league and when they get hot, they can really put a hurtin’ on opposing pitchers.
This is, of course, Mike Loree’s first start against the Brothers this year but most of the batters already know him from years past.
Jose is just 2-5 on the season in his 7 starts.
We can’t put much of this on him, though.
His ERA for the year is only 3.60.
De Paula has faced each of the three other teams this year already.
Against the Fubon Guardians, in particular, he has pitched okay.
In his first start against the Guardians, Jose threw 7 full innings allowing only 5 hits and 2 earned runs.
They got to him the second time around, though, with 3 home runs and 5 earned runs total over just 6 innings.
Fubon is the worst hitting team in the league but I have to favor them because of Mike Loree.
I know De Paula has pitched well lately giving up only 4 earned runs over his previous 3 starts totaling 18 innings.
He has struck out 22 batters over his last two outings.
After walking 10 batters in his first 5 starts, Jose has only given up two bases on balls in his last two appearances.
Another marker that his control is very good right now is his ground ball to fly ball ratio over the past two games of 16:2.
These two teams have some pretty solid relievers and each team is throwing their ace out there.
The only place I think we have a decent edge is the run total.
I think this game has 5-4 written all over it.
Let’s take the over 12 runs.
We didn’t get the win today, guys, in the CPBL.
We went over 13.5 and the Lions and Monkeys put up 13.
The play was Uni on the moneyline for (+180).
I thought Ryan Carpenter could hold it together but the bullpen is now fade or bust.
These are two of the most dominant pitchers in the CPBL and one of the two is an all-time great.
Let’s hit that under 12 runs and get another win for our CPBL betting bag of cash.
