Hanwha Eagles vs. KT Wiz Pick – KBO July 15, 2020

The KT Wiz and Hanwha Eagles meet for the second game of their three-game series after the Wiz won in convincing fashion on Tuesday. It was easy work for the Wiz, as they struck early and didn’t let up. They made out with an easy 7-2 win behind another big day for the offense. Odrisamer Despaigne was sharp on the mound as well.

Despaigne went 7 innings with just 1 earned run conceded. It was a good day for Despaigne and the Wiz, but another less than encouraging day for the Eagles. The poor season continued, as they lost their 44th game on the season. They are an abysmal 16-44 with a 24.5-game deficit behind the NC Dinos for first in the KBO.

The best-case scenario for the Eagles is to catch the Wyverns and avoid dead last. However, continuing to bomb and aim for the first overall pick in the draft would be better off for the future. The Eagles were bad last season as well, so not many surprises that they’re tanking again. They completed the 2019 campaign with a record of 58-86, so they’re trending in the wrong direction and could finish with a worse mark than that this season.

The Wiz have been swinging a hot bat recently. Forget about the Doosan Bears or NC Dino, the Wiz are the hottest offense in the KBO right now. When you have pitchers scared to pitch to Mel Rojas Jr. that’s what will happen. Rojas Jr. is hitting the ball at a crazy rate recently. He’s making the KBO look too easy for him.

The 30-year-old is good enough to play Triple-A ball, but there aren’t many teams that will want to waste a roster spot on a player his age. Instead, they’ll go with a younger player with more upside. That said, Rojas Jr. is still a fringe major leaguer that probably deserved at least one call up to the bigs. In any case, he looks motivated to get back to the US to play ball.

The Wiz don’t have the pitching to keep pace with the rest of the KBO, but they sure are fun to watch. Their pitching was keyed on last night, though. Kim Min-soo is scheduled to get the call for the Wiz. He’s been inconsistent, which has been the case since entering the KBO in 2015. The same goes for the Eagles’ Kim Bum-soo who entered the league in the same year. Head below for our free Hanwha Eagles vs. KT Wiz pick for July 15, 2020 in the KBO.

Hanwha Eagles vs. KT Wiz Prediction:

The Wiz have been killing the ball at the plate and have shown no signs of slowing down. They have passed the NC Dinos for the second spot in the KBO with regards to batting average. The Wiz are hitting .298 to put them slightly behind the Bears for the best batting average in the KBO. Mel Rojas Jr. is hitting .383 with 21 home runs. He’s the most feared hitter in the league and pitchers must be aware. Pitching around him can cause issues as well. You don’t want to hand out free bases to hitters, especially in the KBO where teams can score in bunches.

Kim Bum-soo will do his best to cool off the Wiz today. They’ve scored at least 7 runs in seven straight games for an average of 7.7 runs scored per game. So, Kim likely has a lot of work to do on Wednesday. Kim has been efficient by his standards, with a 3.95 ERA and 1.51 WHIP in 20 games, most as a reliever out of the bullpen.

In six seasons, Kim has a career ERA of 5.98 and 1.76 WHIP. In his fourth start of the year on July 9, he was shaky with a 6.00 ERA after giving up 4 earned runs and 2 home runs in his latest performance. The Wiz are one of the best teams in the KBO at going deep, so Kim will have to be careful.

I believe the Wiz will be able to get to Kim and the Hanwha bullpen. The onus will likely fall on the Eagles’ offense to respond. They should be able to put up some runs with Kim Min-soo on the hill for the Wiz. He’s a member of a fairly weak rotation. As a team, the Wiz are posting a collective ERA of 5.38.

The Eagles are the only team worst in the KBO with a 5.55 ERA. Min-soo has contributed to those frustrations in 2020 for the Wiz’s pitching staff. He has a 5.73 ERA and 1.83 WHIP in 15 games. In five years, he’s been just about equal with Bum-soo. Min-soo has a career ERA of 5.40 and 1.64 WHIP, so his effort in 2020 has been what we would expect from him for the most part. The Eagles might be able to make a case for an upset because of the favorable matchup for their offense. I foresee a high-scoring contest, with a play on the OVER not bad at all.
