Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns Pick – KBO May 29, 2020

The SK Wyverns are back home looking for their fifth win of the season. They NC Dinos already have 17 wins on the season, while the Wyverns don’t even have five yet. That puts the Wyverns 13 games back of the Dinos and we’re not even a month into the regular season. It wasn’t supposed to go like this for the Wyverns.

This is happening after the Wyverns went 88-55-1 last season. Since getting swept by the Kiroom Heroes, the Wyverns haven’t been the same apparently. They lost in three games and haven’t been able to recover since then. The Wyverns enter Friday with a record of 4-16. They’re coming off an impressive 6-1 win over the Doosan Bears on the road.

That win over the Bears might be the kickstarter that the Wyverns need to get going in the right direction. Or, it could be nothing and the Wyverns revert back to playing bad baseball. In any event, the Wyverns are back home for the next three games and might be able to use that to their advantage. After this weekend, the Wyverns will be back on the road for a very hard series against the NC Dinos.

This is their opportunity to put two or even three wins together and get on the right path. A sweep of the Hanwha Eagles would be an excellent step in the right direction for the Wyverns, but it’s tough to say where they’re going to go. Their offense certainly must step up and start playing better baseball consistently. That hasn’t really been the case.

The Eagles head into this contest with a record of 7-14. The Wyverns are the only team that the Eagles are better than at this particular point in the season. They’re 10.5 games back of the Dinos for the top spot in the KBO. The Eagles are coming off a bad season where they went 58-86-0 and nothing seems to be changing in 2020 thus far.

Kim Min-woo has been much improved from last season, so that’s one positive. He will get the call for the Eagles on Friday, while Kim Tae-hoon will be called on for the Wyverns at home. Head below for our free Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns pick for May 29, 2020 in the KBO.

Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns Prediction:

The Eagles will count on Kim Min-woo to make another standout performance on Friday in this one. After struggling in his first five seasons in the KBO, Kim is off to the best start of his career. Kim has been strong with a 2.25 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in four appearances. He’s allowed just 6 earned runs and 13 hits in 24 innings of work.

This has been a massive improvement from his 6.75 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in 2019. If he can keep this going remains to be seen, though the Eagles are not bringing a dangerous offense to the party today. In other words, Kim might need to pitch another lights out game to get it done here.

The Eagles are 8th in the KBO with a .247 batting average. They’ve also scored 3.5 runs per game, which has been disappointing for the Eagles so far in 2020. As long as Kim doesn’t take the Wyverns lightly, he should have another productive day at the office, though. With the Wyverns sending out Kim Tae-hoon to the starting hill, the Eagles may not get many runs across the plate.

Tae-hoon has been pitching well over the last few seasons. He posted a 3.83 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 2018 and 3.88 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 2019. Tae-hoon is on pace to beat that, as he goes into Friday with an ERA of 2.84 and 0.95 WHIP. He shouldn’t expect much from his offense, which is hitting just .234 with 3.65 runs scored per game on the season. The final score here should be of the lower-scoring variety. I’m on the UNDER.
