Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns Pick – KBO May 30, 2020

The Hanwha Eagles and SK Wyverns meet for another round of play on Saturday. The Wyverns woke up and had one of their best offensive showings of the season yesterday. They scored 8 runs in a 8-6 victory over the Eagles. As bad as they’ve been this season, with a record of 5-16, don’t sleep on the Wyverns just yet.

It’s highly unlikely they find a way to get into championship discussions, but the Wyverns are a better team than their record indicates. This is a club that went 88-55-1 a season ago, so something more is expected out of them than what we’re seeing.Maybe Friday was a starting point for the Wyverns to get going in 2020.

It’s going to be difficult for the Wyverns to catch up to the Dinos and other top contenders, but they should be able to have a respectable year and play better than what we’ve been seeing. Pulling the trigger on a bet for the Wyverns to win the Korean Series seems out there, but they could get back into contention at least.

The Wyverns made it tough on Kim Min-woo. Kim was wacked for 7 earned runs and 6 hits in 3.2 innings of work. The bullpen did a reasonably good job, but the damage was already done by that point. Kim Tae-hoon was much better for the Wyverns, as he allowed 5 hits and 2 earned runs across 5 innings on the hill. The Wyverns’ bullopen nearly blew the game, though, as two relievers allowed 4 earned runs between the two of them in just 0.2 innings.

Ricardo Pinto will be making his fifth KBO appearance for the Wyverns on Saturday. He’s been up and down, mostly down in his first shot at playing baseball in South Korea. Jang Shi-hwan is expected to counter for the Eagles. He has not been doing his part in 2020. Jang has been in the league since 2007, so he has miles of experience on Pinto in the KBO. Head below for our free Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns pick for May 30, 2020 in the KBO.

Hanwha Eagles vs. SK Wyverns Prediction:

Ricardo Pinto is going through some growing pains as a rookie in the KBO. The 26-year-old is in his first season in the league. He was lucky in his most recent outing. Things could have gotten really ugly for Pinto, but he managed to fight out of some jams. Pinto gave up just 1 earned run, which sounds terrific. However, Pinto gave up 13 hits and a walk. It’s insane that Pinto was able to find a way out of that matchup against the KIA Tigers with just 1 earned run. Pinto exited the contest with a WHIP of 2.00 in 7 innings of work.

Prior to that outing, Pinto didn’t get nearly as fortunate. Pinto posted an ERA of 14.54 and 2.77 WHIP in his previous performance. He allowed 9 hits, 3 walks, and 7 earned runs. Pinto took a loss in that one against the Kiwoom Heroes. And if he didn’t catch some breaks against the Tigers, Pinto could have easily had another game like that. Overall, Pinto heads into Saturday with an ERA of 4.76 and 1.90 WHIP in 22.2 innings.

Pinto likely won’t have to be perfect in this one. The Eagles will send Jang Shi-hwan to the mound for this matchup on Saturday. The veteran has a career ERA of 5.49 and 1.70 WHIP, and hasn’t had an ERA below 4.00 since 2015, and that was barely with a 3.98 ERA. Jang is in need of a solid performance in this one. He enters today with a 7.20 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in 4 outings. Jang has gotten pummeled for 11 earned runs in his previous 8 innings on the bump. He posted a 21.00 ERA against the Wiz and 7.20 ERA against the Dinos in those two outings. The offenses should show up and play well against Jang and Pinto here.
