The KIA Tigers and KT Wiz Suwon take to the diamond at Suwon KT Wiz Park on Tuesday. The Wiz are back home after getting swept on the road against the Lotte Giants. They lost by scores of 5-2, 1-0, and 6-4. The Wiz were losers on Thursday as well in their series finale against the Doosan Bears.
Their offense was working in that game, but the pitching was abysmal. The pitching hasn’t been stellar for the Wiz this season. It’s been pretty bad, but that wasn’t their issue on the road versus the Giants. The pitching was strong over the weekend. However, the Bears punched their pitching staff out for 14 runs in a 14-8 final.
The Wiz have generally been putting up nice numbers offensively this season. However, the pitching hasn’t helped them out too much. It was a total 180 on the weekend, though, as the pitching held up their end of the bargain. The offense scored just 6 runs in three games. That’s not good enough, but to see the Wiz pitching well is a good sign. We haven’t seen much of it in 2020.
They go into Tuesday with a record of 11-18, with the upper-hand on the SK Wyverns and Hanwha Eagles. The Wyverns and the Eagles are the only teams that they’re ahead of at the moment. They aren’t a threat at all to the NC Dinos. The Dinos keep on pushing forward and are 13 games up on the Wiz.
They’re still a young franchise that just started playing baseball in 2015. However, last season was a big stepping stone for them, as they reached the .500 mark for the first time in their history. The Wiz did not reach 60+ wins until last season, so it was something to build on for 2020. We haven’t seen them do that, though, at least not yet. The Wiz are expected to give So Hyeong-jun the starting nod against Yang Hyun-jong of the KIA Tigers.
The Tigers are coming off a close 3-2 loss against the Doosan Bears on Sunday. They were swept with losses of 5-1, 4-3, and 3-2. Great pitching, but the offense wasn’t present. Expect more from their offense against the Wiz, but a win is not a given on the road. Head below for our free KIA Tigers vs. KT Wiz pick for June 9, 2020 in the KBO.
KIA Tigers vs. KT Wiz KBO Baseball Betting Odds:
KIA Tigers vs. KT Wiz Prediction:
The Tigers are a mid-tier KBO team that may or may not go on a strong run at some point this season. If they do go on a run, expect them to regress and fail to keep up with the Heroes, Bears, and Dinos. The Tigers head into Tuesday with a record of 15-15. There’s no better way to describe the Tigers but average. That goes for Tigers’ starting pitcher, Yang Hyun-jong, who has been average with an ERA of 4.22 and 1.25 WHIP. He’s probably just a tick above average, but there is room for improvement. He doesn’t appear to be on the same path that he was last season. Yang posted a career-high with an ERA of 2.29 and 1.07 WHIP last season, so he’s tailed off thus far.
Yang owns a career ERA of 3.75 and 1.37 dating back to 2007. Since converting to a starter in 2014, Yang’s worst season was in 2014 with an ERA of 4.25 and 1.39 WHIP. We don’t have a big enough sample size to say which direction Yang is going in yet. He’s coming off a lockdown performance against the Lotte Giants. Yang allowed 1 earned run and 2 hits in 6 innings of work. However, he was far less efficient against the KT Wiz on the road prior to that start. The Wiz hammered for Yang for 6 earned runs and 11 hits in 5 innings. He left that game with a 10.80 ERA and 2.60 WHIP. Yang should be better than that against the Wiz today, but the home team should be able to keep this a competitive matchup.
18-year-old So Hyeong-jun is coming off a standout performance against a dangerous Doosan Bears’ offense. He held the Bears to just 2 hits and no runs across 7 innings of work. Besides two poor outings in five starts, the young So has been pretty good in three performances. Between those three games, So has allowed 4 earned runs in 18.1 innings. Expect So to ride the momentum from his performance against the Bears into Tuesday. He is unlikely to be nearly perfect like that game, but I think there is some value to be had on the Wiz at home. A close 1-run game either way looks realistic here.
