Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins Pick – KBO October 16, 2020

There are five new three-game series’ on Friday in the KBO. We resumed our KBO betting series on Thursday and it went well with two out of three winning picks. The World Series is knocking on the door as we approach the conclusion of the NLCS and ALCS.

Over in South Korea, they’re still in the regular season, though. The Asian baseball leagues have beaten Major League Baseball in the sense that they’re getting a full season in. The CPBL in Taiwan was the first to get going, and then the KBO and then the NPB in Japan followed.

If you are a big baseball fan and want even more baseball, then the KBO has what you need. ESPN2 continues to broadcast games in the morning in the US, so there’s still a market for KBO baseball. It’s a highly entertaining brand of baseball.

You don’t have to look very far to see how good the KBO can be. The Kia Tigers took it to the NC Dinos early on Thursday. However, a 10-3 lead for them turned into a 12-11 loss. It was quite the game, and even better than we had the OVER in that ball game. There wasn’t any sweating that one out.

The Dinos are continuing to hold off the competition in the KBO. They hold a five-game advantage over the LG Twins for the lead. There is still time for the Twins or another club in the KBO to make that up, but there’s only two weeks left in the regular season, so a team will have to get red-hot soon. The Twins have been hot recently, and have swooped in to take the second seed, as it stands now anyway. They’ve won seven of their last nine games and feel pretty good.

After losing back-to-back games against the Lotte Giants, the Twins bounced back with a 6-2 win on Thursday. They avoided a sweep with that performance. Now the Twins are back home to welcome the Kia Tigers to Jamsil Baseball Stadium. The Tigers are holding on to hope that they can find a way into the postseason.

They’re desperate right now, and were punched in the guy against the Dinos on Thursday. After taking a 10-3 lead, the Dinos marched back to win 12-11. We’ll see how the Tigers respond to that devastating loss, but that very well could be a killshot. American Drew Gagnon will seek to get the Tigers on track Friday in another road game against the Twins. Head below for our free Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins pick for October 16, 2020.

Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins KBO Baseball Betting Odds:

  • Tigers +1.5 (-175)
  • Twins -1.5 (+155)

  • Tigers (+110)
  • Twins (-130)

  • Over 8 (-115)
  • Under 8 (-105)

Kia Tigers vs. LG Twins Prediction:

Everything was going swimmingly for the Tigers early on Thursday. After scoring 8 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning, the Tigers had a 10-3 lead over the KBO-leading Dinos. However, the Dinos erupted with 8 runs of their own from the 6th to 8th frame. Tough loss for the Tigers and they don’t need a loss like that at the moment as they try to play catch up from a postseason berth.

Drew Gagnon will look to pitch deep to help out a tired bullpen on Friday. Gagnon has been adequate for the Tigers this season, as he goes into Friday with an ERA of 4.05 and 1.37 WHIP in his first season in the KBO.

Gagnon hasn’t been nearly as effective as fellow newcomer, Dan Straily, but has shown that he can still have a professional baseball career overseas. That said, Gagnon has had it rough against the Twins. He’s posted an ERA of 11.25 with a 0-1 record against the Twins in his first season in South Korea.

In his most recent outing against the Twins, Gagnon was torched for 7 hits and 5 earned runs through 4 innings of work. He is also coming off a less than ideal performance versus the SK Wyverns on October 11. Gagnon conceded 7 hits and 4 earned runs for a 7.20 ERA and 2.00 WHIP.

On the other side, Florida native Casey Kelly has been sharp against the Tigers this season. A former first-round draft pick in the 2008 MLB draft, Kelly has posted an ERA of 1.38 and 2-0 record versus the Tigers. Overall, he’s been on point with a 3.35 ERA and 1.17 WHIP through 26 starts.

As a rookie in the KBO in 2019, Kelly notched an ERA of 2.55 and 1.14 WHIP, so this has been a pretty nice second career for him in South Korea. He is fresh off a dominant outing against the NC Dinos, as he went 9 innings to 2-hit the Dinos for a 0.00 ERA and 0.33 WHIP. If Kelly is in similar form on Friday, the Twins should be able to win easily. I don’t think he’ll be that strong, but it should be enough for a win at home.
