The Kiwoom Heroes will seek an unlikely sweep over the NC Dinos on Sunday at NC Park. If you’ve been following along in the KBO, the Dinos have been a juggernaut blasting away the competition. However, since recording their 25th on the season, they have lost two games in a row.
The Dinos were the first team since 1992 to win 25 games in 32 outings. They must have looked at the news of that too hard, and thought of taking their foot off the gas pedal. The Heroes have walked into NC Park without being intimidated in the least. They belted the Dinos for a 18-5 win on Saturday. Lee Jae-hak lasted just 1.2 innings before getting pulled.
Lee allowed 2 hits and 2 earned runs, but the Dinos might have been better served allowing him to figure it out. Once Lee left the contest, it got much uglier. The bullpen was walloped for 15 earned runs. Kim Kyun-tae gave up 6 earned runs in 1.1 innings for the worst performing pitcher of the day for the Dinos.
It’s unlike the Dinos, who have been on the opposite side of games like that, generally. Not on Saturday, and now the Dinos are looking on the opposite side of the fence trying to avoid a sweep. In any event, the Dinos are still in a good place with a record of 25-8. They have a 3.5-game advantage on the Doosan Bears, which was five games just a couple of days ago.
Can the Dinos really get swept today? I think they could. The Heroes are no pushovers and this isn’t the last time that they’re going to give the Dinos problems. Doing it on the road at NC Park is rather impressive, though. The Heroes will turn to the young 21-year-old Jo Young-gun to get the sweep.
If their offense stays on fire, though, Jo won’t have to be perfect. The Dinos hope that rookie Kim Jin-ho can hold things down enough. This might be a spot where the Dinos might need the offense to explode. This is the very first start for Kim in his career. That might be dicey against the red-hot Heroes. Kiwoom Heroes vs. NC Dinos KBO Baseball Betting Odds:
Kiwoom Heroes vs. NC Dinos Prediction:
Like I said, this is the very first start for Kim Jo-ho for the Dinos. That’s not too ideal for the Dinos as they look to avoid a sweep. Having said that, the Dinos have an offense that is fully capable of scoring a lot of runs. They’re tops in the KBO with a batting average of .303 and 368 hits. That’s good for 11 hits per game. They’ve also scored 6.9 runs per game, which is the best mark in the KBO, too. The Dinos will likely do something versus Jo Young-gun. The 21-year-old appeared in one game last season and didn’t do well.
As a first-time pitcher in the KBO in 2019, Jo was chased after allowing 3 hits and 3 earned runs and 1 out recorded. That equated to a whopping ERA of 81.00 and 18.00 WHIP. Jo’s gotten two starts and a call out of the bullpen this season. He has a 4.00 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 9 innings this season, so he hasn’t gotten much work.
It’s a bit of a small sample size for Jo in 2020. This is likely going to be a tricky assignment for Jo against the red-hot Heroes. Don’t expect 18 more runs out of them on Sunday, but runs should be easy to come by again. Keep in mind that the Dinos’ bullpen has to be spent after working as much as they did last night. That’s going to put a lot of pressure on Jo to step up. I’m on board with a high-scoring contest between the Heroes and Dinos in the series finale.
