Kiwoom Heroes vs. SK Wyverns Pick – KBO July 17, 2020

The Kiwoom Heroes and SK Wyverns will begin a three-game on Friday at SK Happy Dream Park in Incheon. The Heroes are coming off a rough go of it against the NC Dinos in their series finale on Thursday. They were beaten up pretty good for a 9-1 loss.

The Heroes were going for a sweep in that matchup, but came up way short of achieving that. In any case, it was still a productive series with two wins out of three games. The Heroes enter Friday with a record of 37-26, which puts them 5 games back of the Dinos at the moment. There is still a lot of baseball left to be played.

They’re in a two-way tie with the Doosan Bears for second in the KBO. From what I’ve watched in the KBO this season, the records just about line up with where they should be. There aren’t too many surprises from the product that has been on the field.

The Dinos deserve to be first, while the Heroes and Bears have been pretty much equal, and the next best that the KBO has to offer. The Bears are the defending KBO champions from 2019. I’m not so sure that the Bears are going to repeat, but they certainly have a chance. It’s wide-open between the Heroes, Bears, and Dinos, though an upset could happen in the postseason.

The Wyverns were a top team in the KBO last season. In fact, the Wyverns tied with the Bears for first in the KBO. They both finished with a record of 88-55-1. One of those teams crumbled while the other excelled. The Wyverns didn’t win a game in the playoffs, while the Bears swept the Heroes for the Korean Series title.

They’ve been stuck in a season-long hangover so far in 2020. The Wyverns are 19-43 to give them a 2-game edge on the Hanwha Eagles. The Eagles are the only team in the KBO that the Wyverns are ahead of at the moment, though. With a 11.5-game deficit on the Lotte Giants for eighth in the league. In other words, just getting out of this spot is going to be hard. Head below for our free Kiwoom Heroes vs. SK Wyverns pick for July 17, 2020 in the KBO.

Kiwoom Heroes vs. SK Wyverns Prediction:

The Kiwoom Heroes are capable of putting up a lot of runs, but we didn’t see it yesterday. They won’t have to see Drew Rucinski today, though, and the results should show. Rucinski has been one of the best pitchers in the KBO this season, so Rucinski is a whole different animal than Kim Joo-han. While Rucinski is one of the best in the KBO, Kim has been one of the worst. Kim has a 6.53 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in seven games.

He was added to the starting rotation because of injuries and it hasn’t gone too well, especially recently. In his last two outings he’s conceded 8 earned runs in 9.2 innings. He’s also allowed 13 hits and 4 walks. I think the Heroes can get back on track against Kim Joo-han after Rucinski slowed them down on Thursday.

Kim appeared out of the bullpen against the Heroes earlier in the season. He didn’t record an out following 17 pitches. The Heroes notched a hit, 2 walk, and a run for a 99.99 ERA for Kim. It’s just about impossible for him not to bring that number down today, though. Having said that, the Heroes are probably going to put plenty of runs against him in this one. Lee Seung-ho has not been razor sharp for the Heroes this season, so the Wyverns may still have a case on Friday.

Lee has recorded an ERA of 5.90 and 1.52 WHIP in 12 starts. He’s in his third season and we want to see a turn at this point in his career. However, it hasn’t been there, and it’s been more of the same for Lee. He comes in cold with 12 earned runs conceded in his previous two outings across 6 innings of work. There should be runs on the board in this one to tip the total towards the OVER.
