KT Wiz vs. Doosan Bears Game 3 Pick – KBO November 12, 2020

Game 3 of the final playoff series before the Korean Series takes place in Seoul at the Gocheok Sky Dome. The winner has the honour of playing the NC Dinos in the championship series. The Dinos have been waiting around for their challenger. They won the KBO regular season title, hence granting them an automatic ticket to the Korean Series.

It’s their second trip to the Korean Series in the team’s seven-year history. They met with the Doosan Bears in the 2016 Korean Series and could be out for revenge this season. For some clubs, the long layoff may not be conducive to a winning formula. However, providing Chang-mo Koo more time to rest up could be seen as a big positive for the Dinos.

He was coming off a forearm fracture when Koo got some warmup outings in. The Dinos wanted to give him some time to shake off the rust before this layoff before the Korean Series. Going months without pitching would have been a problem, but a couple of weeks shouldn’t give him many problems. If the KT Wiz don’t figure something out soon, it’s going to be the Bears facing Koo and the Dinos in the Korean Series.

The Bears were winners in Game 1 and Game 2 over the Wiz. Strong pitching performances from the Bears in both outings provides the Bears with an opportunity to go up by three games on the Wiz in this playoff series. Chris Flexen went 7 innings in a 3-2 win in the season opener, and then in the following game, it was a team effort between five different pitchers.

Won-joon Choi was the only pitcher to concede a run to the Wiz in Game 2. He was the shakiest of the four, with 5 hits and an earned run allowed in 2.2 innings of work. Raul Alcantara, who has come on strongly late in the season for the Bears, is expected to get the starting nod for the Bears. He’s been the x-factor for this team, and could lead them to a Korean Series win. William Cuevas is expected to counter for the Wiz. KT Wiz vs. Doosan Bears Prediction:

The KT Wiz will have to bump Raul Alcantara out of his groove if they’re going to have success on Thursday. Alcantara has been having his way with the opposition. In his second season in the KBO, Alcantara has recorded an ERA of 2.54 and 1.03 WHIP through 31 games in 198.2 innings of work. This is an improvement from a 4.01 ERA and 1.25 WHIP a season ago as a KBO rookie.

Alcantara caught fire down the stretch. He has allowed 2 or fewer runs in nine of his previous eleven outings. Alcantara was in perfect form in his last start of the regular season against the Kiwoom Heroes. He conceded no runs and gave up just 2 hits to finish the season with a stunning seven straight wins. Besides a no-decision on September 20, Alcantara has won ten of his previous eleven showings. Overall, Alcantara finished the season with an ultra impressive record of 20-2.

William Cuevas hasn’t been in good form versus the Bears in 2020. He has posted an ERA of 5.02 and record of 1-1 through three outings. In his most recent showings against the Bears in October, Cuevas was swallowed up for a 16.20 ERA and 2.40 WHIP in 3.1 innings on October 10, and then he lasted just 3 innings two weeks later for a 6.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP. Cuevas owns a cumulative ERA of 4.10 and 1.25 WHIP across 27 games and 158 innings. I’m going to ride the hot hand of Alcantara and the Bears on Thursday, as they have a good chance of going up 3-0 games in this one.
