The KT Wiz and Kia Tigers get the final week of the regular season started at Kia Champions Field in Gwangju. This is the “extra” time in the KBO regular season. There is a ten-day make-up period for rained out games in South Korea from October 20 to October 30. It’s October 27, so the door is closing fast on playoff seeding. We have our five teams, and the NC Dinos are destined to finish first, but a lot of unknowns for second to fifth. The top seed gets an automatic bid to the Korean Series.
That’s certainly enough of a reason to strive for first in the KBO. Four other teams will battle it out for the right to play the Dinos. They clinched their first KBO regular season title over the weekend. Now all they have to do is wait it out and see who they’ll be playing in the Korean Series. It could be anybody from second to fifth. This is going to be a tight race for the right to see the Dinos. The Kia Tigers have officially been removed from the postseason hunt, so the only thing to play for is getting things in order to build up momentum for next season.
It’s never a good feeling to close out the season on a low note. The Tigers will look to avoid that and finish strong. They enter Tuesday with a record of 71-68-0 for sixth in the KBO. Only the top-5 teams in the league go to the postseason. The Tigers are going to have to accept likely being the first team out. If they missed out by a game or so, then it probably would have been more frustrating. However, the Tigers are six games back. The good news is that there won’t be any stress for Tigers’ fans watching this.
The Wiz are in the race for the second seed in the KBO. They’re a half game up on the Kiwoom Heroes and a half game behind the LG Twins for second. There are only 2.5 games separating the Wiz from the second seed to fifth. The Wiz have something to play for on Tuesday, as is the case tomorrow in the second game against the Tigers.
The Wiz will send out Odrisamer Despaigne for the starting nod on Tuesday. The former major leaguer has been in decent form as a KBO rookie in 2020. Up and down is the best way to describe his first experience in the KBO. Hyun-shik Jang gets the nod for the Tigers. He would like something positive going into the season. Head below for our free KT Wiz vs. Kia Tigers pick for October 27, 2020.
KT Wiz vs. Kia Tigers KBO Baseball Betting Odds:
KT Wiz vs. Kia Tigers Prediction:
Odrismare Despaigne spent 2019 with the Chicago White Sox. He posted an ERA of 9.45 in three starts and that was the end of his career in the US after five years. There is still a chance for Despaigne to revive his MLB career, though I’m not too confident. Despaigne has notched an ERA of 4.19 and record of 15-8.
There is nothing wrong with that for the KBO, but you figure that’d equate to an ERA well above 5.00 at a minimum. Despaigne has been in great form against the Tigers in his KBO career. He owns a perfect record of 5-0 and 2.65 ERA against the Tigers.
In his most recent outing against the Tigers, Despaigne allowed 2 earned runs through 6.1 innings on September 25. He should be able to do a serviceable job against the Tigers on Tuesday. If Despaigne isn’t perfect, run support should be there for him. Hyun-shik Jang has been getting rocked this season.
Jang, who has been in the league since 2013, has a career ERA of 5.84 and 1.60 WHIP through 182 games. He’s been off his rocker this season, with an ERA of 10.47 and 2.04 WHIP through 36 games, 34 of which were out of the bullpen.
His effort versus the Wiz has not been anything to get excited about either. Jang has a 9.82 ERA 3.2 innings of work. He gave up 6 hits and 4 earned runs in 2.1 innings on September 15 against the Wiz. In his previous two outings overall, Jang gave up a whopping 10 hits and 9 earned runs in 2 innings. With Jang checked out for the season already, look for the Wiz to pick up an important win on Tuesday.
