KT Wiz vs. LG Twins Pick – KBO May 23, 2020

The KT Wiz Suwon and LG Twins meet for the first match of the day in South Korea on Saturday. The Wiz and Twins will meet up at Jamsil Baseball Stadium for an afternoon matchup. The Twins edged out the Wiz by a score of 6-5 on Friday to get their series started. The Wiz got started early with a 4-run 1st inning. Casey Kelly got touched up early, but was able to settle in and pitch a nice game despite the bumpy road in the initial stages of the contest. Kelly ended up going 6 innings, allowing 4 earned runs which all came in that opening sequence. Any more mistakes by Kelly and the Wiz likely don’t win that game.

The Wiz entered the bottom of the 7th inning with a 5-1 lead, but the Twins got a run back and then scored 2 runs in the 8th and then the 9th to come from behind for a big win. Disappointing final result to take for Odrisamer Despaigne who went 7 innings with just 1 earned run allowed. The bullpen was unable to do their job, though, as they were wacked for 4 earned runs late in the game. Rhee Dae-eun was pulled out of the game before recording an out. He gave up 2 earned runs before exiting. That loss was certainly on the bullpen. The offense falling asleep after the 1st inning had something to do with it, too.

The Twins stole a win in that one and advanced to 10-5 on the season. With the victory, they’re 2 games back of the NC Dinos for 1st in the KBO. The Twins are a game up on the Doosan Bears for 2nd. There’s a lot left to be decided and it’s way too early to lean one way or the other. The Dinos suffered a letdown spot after a nice series against the Bears on the road. They were lovers, 5-3, against the Hanwha Eagles at home last night. We hit the UNDER in that one, with the Eagles a nice win for many people on the moneyline as an underdog.

KT heads into Saturday with a record of 6-9. Not the best start. They are ahead of just the Samsung Lions and SK Wyverns. The Wiz were .500 for the first time since in franchise history last season. At 71-71-2, it was the first season that the Wiz scored more than 60 wins in their five-year history. Improving on that record is in doubt, but it’s really early. We should be in for another entertaining contest on Saturday. The Wiz and Twins have the spotlight to themselves as the only clubs playing in this time-slot. KT Wiz vs. LG Twins Prediction:

The KT Wiz have been one of the worst pitching teams in the KBO. As a collective unit, the Wiz own a 5.45 ERA with 158 hits allowed in 15 games for an average of 10.5 hits against per game. Their bullpen issues were on full display last night ,and has been problematic throughout the year. The Wiz will look for better results from Kim Min, who has struggled mightily in 2020. The 21-year-old is in his second season as a full-time member of the rotation for the Wiz. In nine outings in 2017, Kim posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.74 WHIP. With more work under his belt the following season, he was able to improve slightly with a 4.96 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.

Kim has been under a lot of heat thus far this season. He will have to get it together or risk getting demoted to the bullpen. Kim heads into Saturday with a 9.00 ERA and 1.80 WHIP in two starts. Against the Bears and Lions, Kim was rattled for 10 earned runs in 10 innings. He also allowed 14 hits and 4 walks during that stretch. Propping the Wiz up this season has been their offense. They’ve been swinging the bats well despite their pitching troubles. The Wiz are 1st in the KBO with a batting average of .326. They’ve averaged 7 runs per game to put them in a tie with the Doosan Bears for runs scored.

The Wiz should be able to find some success offensively in this one. A win isn’t out of the question if that’s the case. Cha Woo-chan hasn’t been the most reliable starting pitcher on the Twins’ pitching staff. The 32-year-old veteran which began his career in 2006 with the Samsung Lions, owns a career ERA of 4.48 and 1.44 WHIP. He’s been trending above that thus far, with a 5.62 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in three starts. In 16 innings pitched, Cha has yielded 10 earned runs and 18 hits. This is shaping up to be a high-scoring matchup with the OVER a likely winner.
