The KBO returns on Tuesday with another five matches. If you were looking for games on Monday, nothing was canceled, that’s just normal scheduling in the KBO. Monday’s are typically off days in the CPBL and KBO. There aren’t too many clubs in these leagues so the day off for everyone is necessary.
Slow days in Major League Baseball still generally has three or four games. However, there are only four clubs in the CPBL and ten in the KBO. There’s just not enough inventory to go around to support baseball every day. The KBO is the best baseball that is available on the market right now.
The latest news in Major League Baseball suggests that they’re getting close to approving an early July start. Owners approved the proposal, but the most important vote has yet to come. The player’s association has not made a decision thus far, which is likely going to be the most likely step in rectifying a deal.
Scott Boras isn’t too thrilled about a revenue sharing plan and is urging players to reject it. Not the threat of Covid-19, but negotiations over money might be the biggest hurdle to getting the season started. We’ll see what happens, but if you’re desperate for baseball, there are options in Asia.
We’re only a week into the KBO season, so there’s still some time to feel things out and see which direction this season is going. The biggest surprise thus far has to be the start of the Lotte Giants. They’re the only club in the league that is off to a 5-0 start. That said, it’s improbable the Giants are going to stay there by the end of the month. The NC Dinos are a club that could easily be there, though.
The Dinos head into the second week of the season with a record of 4-1 and figure to play a role near the top of the KBO standings by the end of the year. The KT Wiz have their work cut out for them, though. The young club that was established in 2015, posted a mark of 71-71 a season ago. They’re off to a 2-4 start in 2020. Head below for our free KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos pick for May 12, 2020 in the KBO.
KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos KBO Baseball Odds:
KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos Prediction:
The Dinos are coming off a 10-8 loss against the LG Twins on Sunday. That’s a bad loss for a Dinos club that came out of the gate swinging in the 1st inning. The Dinos scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st and then didn’t finish the deal. The bullpen fell apart late with 7 runs conceded in the 8th frame. Bullpens are way better than in the CPBL, but you’ll get one of those games here and there in South Korea, too. The Dinos will be backed by Drew Rucinski on the bump Tuesday.
Rucinski looks to build on an excellent effort in his freshman campaign in the KBO in 2019. The American was sharp with a 3.05 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, as he seemed to find a place where he can perfect his craft. In his first start in 2020, Rucinski allowed just 3 hits and no runs across 6 innings of work. He also struck out 6 hitters for a productive day in his first game this season.
Rucinski arrived in South Korea last year after spending time in the Angels, Indians, Cubs, Twins, and Marlins’ organizations. In his last full season, Rucinki notched a 2.52 ERA and 1.32 WHIP out of the bullpen in New Orleans as part of the Marlins’ AAA outfit. In 41 games of major league action, Rucinski was okay with a 5.33 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.
Expect to see Rucinski have another effective day on Tuesday. He could get into a bit of a duel with fellow former major leaguer Odrisamer Despaigne. Despaigne was in the majors for six seasons and saw a lot more work than Rucincki. He appeared in 109 games with a total of 363 innings pitched. Despaigne was serviceable with a 5.11 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in his career. He couldn’t stay on a roster after getting dinged with a 9.45 ERA and 2.32 WHIP with the White Sox last season.
In his first outing in the KBO, Despaigne found things a lot easier. He went 6 innings and left the game with a 1.50 ERA and 0.67 WHIP after yielding 4 hits and 1 earned run. Despaigne and Rucinski likely settle in here and control the pace of the game. That should lead to a lower scoring final score between the KT Wiz and NC Dinos on Tuesday.
