KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos Pick – KBO May 14, 2020

The NC Dinos will look for a sweep of the KT Wiz Suwon on Thursday in the KBO. The Dinos escaped with a couple of close wins over the Wiz on Tuesday and Wednesday, with wins of 7-6 and 5-4. They needed a furious rally in the 9th inning to tie the ballgame up after going into the final frame down 6-4. NC tied the game up and then won shortly after in extras. They won in extras again after getting down in the top of the 10th inning.

The Dinos scored 2 runs in the bottom of the frame for another thrilling win. With the win, the Dinos are off to a 6-1 start and are tied with the Lotte Giants for the top spot in the standings. The Dinos and Giants are the only clubs that have only one loss on their resumes. There were three, but the Kiwoom Heroes dropped their second loss against the Samsung Lions yesterday. It wasn’t a good day for the Heroes at all, as they were stymied at the plate and generated no offense.

NC have their eyes fixated on big goals this season. They should be involved at the top of the standings in 2020 after making major strides last season. After finishing 58-85-1 in 2018, the Dinos were able to bounce back in a sense for a record of 73-70-2 last year. Are they ready to take another jump forward? That could be the case. It’s early to conclude anything, but the Dinos have looked well-rounded in 2020 thus far.

The Wiz recorded a mark of 71-71-2 in their fifth season as a franchise. They were established in 2013 and started playing in 2015. Last season was by far their best season. The KT Wiz finished with records of 52-91-1, 53-89-2, 50-94-0, 59-89-3, so that was a monumental leap forward in 2019.

Threatening to reach the playoffs would be another step in the right direction for the Wiz. They’re not on that path, though, as the Wiz head into Thursday with a record of 1-6. SK Wyverns and the Wiz are the only teams without two wins. Bae Je-seong, who looked good in his start of 2020, will look to get the Wiz their second win in the series finale against the Dinos. Koo Chang-mo is expected to counter for NC. Head below for our free KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos pick for May 14, 2020 in the KBO.

KT Wiz vs. NC Dinos Prediction:

While the Wiz have a poor record of 1-6, they’ve at least been able to stay competitive in three straight losses. After notching their first win of the year against Doosan Bears, 12-3, the Wiz lost three in a row by scores of 13-12, 7-6, and 5-4. There are some positives to find in that 1-6 record.

That includes Bae Je-soeng who was solid in his first start of 2020. Bae posted a 2.84 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs against the Lotte Giants for a no-decision on the 7th. Bae was reliable last season, with a 3.76 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 21 starts and 7 appearances out of the bullpen. The 23-year-old is off to a good start in 2020.

However, as a team the Wiz have struggled on the bump. They are 9th in the KBO with a team ERA of 6.65. The Wiz have surrendered the most home runs in the league with 12 long balls conceded. Once Bae leaves the game, the Wiz could be in for some problems again when they need the bullpen to help out, which they haven’t done this season. The Dinos have been more reliable as a pitching staff so far. They’ve recorded an ERA of 4.02 for 4th in the KBO.

Dinos’ starter, Koo Chang-mo, is coming off a dominant performance against the Lions on the 7th. He gave up no runs and just 2 hits across 6 innings of work in his first start this season. Koo finished the match with a 0.00 ERA and 0.67 WHIP. After struggling in his first three seasons, Koo figured things out last season, with a 3.20 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 2019. He could be ready for another uptick in productivity. This should be a solid duel between Bae and Koo in the early stages of this contest. However, expect the bullpen of the Dinos to win the battle later in the game. The NC Dinos should get the sweep on Thursday.
