Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers Pick – KBO May 19, 2020

A new week in the KBO begins on Tuesday after the day off yesterday. The NC Dinos are off to a hot start after 11 games of play. They’re up on the competition with a record of 10-1. The Giants, Bears, and Twins are all tied at 7-4, so there is work left to be done to keep pace with the Dinos. One of them likely won’t be able to keep along the right path.

I venture to say that the Lotte Giants are not going to be the team to stay in the mix at the top of the standings. It’s not exactly a bold prediction. The Giants finished last in the league last season. Recording a mark of something around .500 would be a move in the right direction. In other words, it’s unlikely that the Giants stay afloat with the best teams in the KBO.

The Giants’ Korean Series odds have improved nicely since the beginning of the season. However, it’s never a wise decision to make quick decisions because of an 11-game sample size. With respects to our success in the KBO, we’ve done quite well and head into Tuesday on a 6-1 run after sweeping our two picks for Sunday in the KBO and CPBL.

We needed a walk-off balk in extra innings to help us get there, but we’ll gladly take it. The Hanwha Eagles blew a 4-0 lead in that one, including a solo homer to tie the game in the 9th. We were on the Eagles, so welcome the break in extra innings after nearly taking a bad beat.

If it weren’t for a bad beat in the 9th inning of the SK Wyverns game a few days ago, we’d be sitting pretty right now with seven straight winning selections. Those are going to happen here and there, though. It’s hard to escape a bad beat every so often. There are five matches on the Tuesday slate, two of which we’ll be covering. The Giants are in action looking to improve on their record of 7-4. Like I said, I’m not overly confident in their record holding up.

The KIA Tigers head into the week with a record of 5-7. They’re coming off a 6-4 loss against the Doosan Bears, a day after they stomped on the Bears for a 13-4 victory. The Bears opened the series with a 13-4 win the day before, so they were just returning the favour. However, the Tigers were unable to win the rubber-match.
The Tigers will send out Lee Min-woo today following two shaky outings to get his season started. Seo Jun-won is expected to counter for the Giants. Head below for our free Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers pick for May 19, 2020 in the KBO.

Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers Prediction:

Lee Min-woo is searching for a bounce back performance on Tuesday. He’s been off the mark in his first two starts, and that goes for the majority of his career, which began in 2017 with the Tigers. In two starts as a rookie, Lee showcased some potential with an ERA of 2.84 and 1.11 WHIP. He also made two appearances out of the bullpen as well. Lee has mostly been a reliever in his career and the results haven’t been there.

In his first season as a full-time member of the Tigers, Lee posted a 7.17 ERA and 1.99 WHIP. He was able to bring his numbers down to a 5.43 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 6 starts and 26 outings of the bullpen. In two starts this season, Lee is following that same line, as he enters today with a 5.91 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. He has yet to allow a long ball, which is the good news, but 7 hits and 7 earned runs in 10.2 innings is nevertheless not good enough. As a team, the Tigers have a 5.31 ERA for second-worst in the KBO.

The Giants have had an improved offense this season, so they may not be as easy of an out as Lee has seen in the past. The Giants are hitting .289 going into Tuesday. They’re 3rd in hits and tied for 3rd in runs scored in the league with 66. Conversely, the Tigers are hitting .261 with 54 runs scored thus far.

They should be able to get their offense going against Seo Jun-won in this contest. This is Seo’s sophomore campaign after posting an ERA of 5.47 and 1.60 WHIP as a rookie. He took it on the chin in his last meeting against the Tigers, as they had 9 hits and 4 earned runs in 5 innings to chase Seo out of the game with a 7.20 ERA and 2.00 WHIP.

Seo was steady in his first start this season, but was punished for some bad pitches in his last outing. He allowed 5 hits and 5 earned runs in 5 innings for a 9.00 ERA and 1.80 WHIP. Seo should be better than that today, but still is unlikely to get out of this without suffering some damage. The Giants and Tigers should be able to get into a high-scoring affair in this KBO matchup on Tuesday.
