Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers Pick – KBO May 21, 2020

The Lotte Giants and KIA Tigers will tangle again on Thursday after the Tigers blanked the Giants by a score of 6-0 yesterday. It was a lackluster performance by Dan Straily, as the Tigers got to him early and often for 5 earned runs. Straily was able to settle in and he got 5 innings of work in, but the damage was done, and there was no spark from the offense.

The Giants were unable to find a run against Drew Gagnon, who had a standout performance for the first time in his KBO career. For Straily, it was the first game in the KBO that he got into trouble. I’m confident that Straily can bounce back and have a productive year. I won’t be shy of backing Straily in the future despite the poor results yesterday.

The Giants might have been the biggest mirage of the first week of the KBO season, though. They looked like a team ready to go from last to first in just one year. However, reality is beginning to set in for the Giants. While sportsbooks received plenty of action on the Giants to win the Korean Series due to their hot start, it probably wasn’t the best bet in the world. After all, the Giants would need to go from last to first for that to happen.

The KIA Tigers on the other hand might have a better argument, though still face an uphill battle to get on the same level as the likes of the NC Dinos and Doosan Bears. Nevertheless, the Tigers have been swinging the bats well and are winners in three of their last four games. Their best win had to be a 13-4 win over the Bears on Saturday. Yesterday was very impressive as well, with Gagnon putting on a pitching clinic to hold the Giants to no runs.

Im Ki-young is coming off a productive outing in his most recent performance. He shuttered a good Bears’ offense, though his team was unable to help him out in that one. While Im allowed just 1 earned run, there was no help from his teammates as they committed errors to allow the Bears to score 5 runs with Im on the bump. His first outing this season on the road was not good, but he settled in at home versus the Bears. Im gets the call against Park Se-woong who was good in a recent start against the Bears, too. Head below for our free Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers pick for May 21, 2020 in the KBO.

Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers Prediction:

The Lotte Giants head into Thursday with a record of 7-6. All of the sudden they’re in danger of falling to .500 on the season. They got out to a 6-1 start in their first seven games of the season. However, since then, the Giants have gone 1-5 and don’t look like a championship contender. There are some people who got fooled into thinking this season was going to be vastly different than last year.

It still could, but I’m under the impression that the Giants are going to regress and be irrelevant by the end of June. The Giants will trot out Park Se-woong to get things done on the road against the Tigers. He’s been a bit all over the place the last few years, with a 3.68 ERA, 9.92 ERA, and 4.20 ERA. In two starts this season, Park has been serviceable with a 3.72 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.

Park was at his best against the Bears at home on the 14th, as he held them to 1 earned run in 5 innings. He left the contest with a 1.80 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. However, Park didn’t pitch the same on the road on the 7th against the KT Wiz. The Wiz recorded 6 hits and 3 earned runs across 4.2 innings on Park. He exited the game with a 5.79 ERA and 1.71 WHIP.

The Tigers have been swinging the bats well recently and should be able to find some success against Park at home. Im is just going to have to hold up for the Tigers and they should be alright in this contest. He’s been better at home with a 2.45 ERA as opposed to a 8.31 ERA in an appearance on the road.

Overall, Im owns a 5.62 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 2020. Homefield should provide him with an advantage and puts him more on an even playing field against Park. The Giants’ offense has been silent with only 2 runs scored in the last two games, so Im might get a break here against some cold bats. The better value in this matchup appears to be on the KIA Tigers to get it done again at home.
