Lotte Giants vs. Kiwoom Heroes Pick – KBO June 18, 2020

The Lotte Giants and Kiwoom Heroes will meet for the rubber-match of their three-game series on Thursday. The Giants let one slip away yesterday, as they had a nice opportunity to make it two wins in a row on the road against the Heroes. It wasn’t meant to be, though. The Heroes scored a run in the 8th and 9th innings to erase a 3-2 deficit for the 4-3 win. The win ended a small two-game skid following a 9-5 loss against the Dinos and 7-5 against the Giants the day before. For the Giants, they failed to win their 9th in 11 games, but played a competitive game that could have gone either way on Wednesday.

Thanks to the Giants’ recent success, they’re hanging tough with a record of 19-18. The Giants started red-hot to garner the attention of people, but then they fell off and regressed. Now the Giants are back to playing solid baseball, and back on the bandwagon people go. When they were 6-1 to open the season, the Giants were getting a whole lot more attention, though.

Their Korean Series odds dropped hard, as a lot of money came in on the Giants to win. For people that haven’t followed the KBO before this season, the Giants were awful last season. They finished in 2019 with a record of 48-93-3, so there was a surprise with their hot start.

However, baseball seasons are long and a short stretch of success doesn’t say much. It also doesn’t say much that the Dinos aren’t playing as good as they were right now. That goes for the Doosan Bears as well. The Dinos and Bears are still contenders, but in a marathon, there are going to be cold runs.

The series finale between the Giants and Heroes should be a good game on Thursday. Former major leaguer, Dan Straily, will get the call for the Giants in this one. He’s helped the Giants out of the basement in 2020, and has proven to be a good acquisition. 21-year-old Lee Seung-ho is expected to counter for the Heroes. Lotte Giants vs. Kiwoom Heroes Prediction:

Dan Straily has been a godsend for the Lotte Giants this season. With the major leagues giving up on Straily, he has found a new home and excelling in the KBO. It was just in 2018 that Straily was pitching well with the Miami Marlins. He finished that season with an ERA of 4.12, which is serviceable enough.

In 2016 Straily notched an ERA of 3.76 with the Cincinnati Reds, so it wasn’t all that long ago he was having success in the major leagues. In any event, Straily is in the KBO now pitching for a lot less money. He seems to be having a good time, though, with an ERA of 2.08 and 1.11 WHIP in eight games. Straily has allowed 2 or fewer runs in seven of eight performances.

In Straily’s previous four starts, across 25.2 innings of work, he’s allowed just 2 earned runs. His only poor outing this season was against the KIA Tigers on may 20. Since then, Straily has been on fire on the bump. He should have the advantage over Lee Seung-ho on Thursday. Lee has struggled with a 6.09 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.

He’s in his third season in the KBO with a career ERA of 5.00 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. In Lee’s first two seasons, he notched a 4.48 ERA and 5.60 ERA. In his previous four outings, Lee has surrendered 15 earned runs. You have to give the edge to Straily here, who is developing into one of the aces of the KBO in 2020.
