NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears Pick – KBO June 26, 2020

The NC Dinos and Doosan Bears tangle for the series of the weekend in Seoul at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. This pits the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the KBO. The Dinos are No. 1 with a record of 30-13 and the Bears are 27-17 for No. 3. Despite the Bears 3rd right now, a half game back of the Kiwoom Heroes, many people regard the Dinos and Bears as the best teams in the KBO.

I’ve talked highly of the Heroes this season, and not to be surprised that they’ve climbed up the leaderboard to the second spot. Having said that, the Bears are worthy of being there as well. Between the Dinos, Bears, and Heroes there isn’t too much difference right now. The Bears are 3.5 games back of the Dinos, while the LG Twins are 5.5 games back.

There’s a little bit of wiggle room between the top-3 teams and the rest of the KBO. That could change over the weekend, though. The Dinos are coming off a split in a doubleheader on Friday, with a 3-1 win and then a 19-6 loss immediately thereafter against the KT Wiz. Two very different games, with the Dinos’ pitching staff getting mauled. The usually sure handed Koo Chang-mo got touched up for 4 earned runs in 4 innings for his first effort of 2020.

Sung-moo Hong was the biggest loser of the day for the Dinos. He was spanked for 7 hits and 10 earned runs in an inning of work. The Dinos just decided to stick with Hong and hope for the best. Instead of digging deeper in their bullpen, they tried to preserve an arm or two for Friday. The Bears had a similar day, as they won the first of two games, 14-6, and then came way short by a score of 7-0 against the SK Wyverns.

The Dinos and Bears will play in a must-watch contest on Friday. The Dinos are expected to send out Lee Jae-hak who will be searching for a start that will give his numbers a bump down. Lee has been inconsistent and has already had a tough go of it against the Bears this season. The Bears will go with Park Jong-gi for his third start of 2020. Head below for our free NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears pick for June 26, 2020 in the KBO.

NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears Prediction:

The Dinos can’t expect to get magic from Lee Jae-hak on the road against the Doosan Bears on Friday. Lee has been one of the weak links in the Dinos’ starting rotation. He owns a 5.58 ERA and 1.39 WHIP going into this matchup against the Bears. Lee has been a wreck in most of his recent outings. He has posted ERA’s of 15.75, 10.80, and 7.20 in three of his previous four starts.

Lee has allowed 6 earned runs and 8 hits in his last 6.2 innings of work. In an early season matchup against the Bears, Lee was hit for 4 earned runs in 5 innings for a 7.20 ERA. He also yielded 8 hits and 3 walks for a less than desirable 2.00 WHIP. Lee is stuck in a hole right now and I don’t think the Bears are going to help him get out of it. This doesn’t look like an ideal matchup for a guy that has been struggling of late.

On paper Park Jong-gi has looked good for the Bears. He has a 2.53 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in two starts across 10.2 innings. That’s great, but Park hasn’t been in the KBO since getting pounded in 2015 for a 11.57 ERA and 3.00 WHIP in three games. And Park wasn’t good in one of his two outings this season. He allowed 3 earned runs in 4.2 innings for a 5.79 ERA versus the Eagles in his first start, but was able to respond against the Twins for no runs allowed in 6 innings.

I could see him having issues against the Dinos’ offense after that performance. I want to see more of a sample size with Park before I begin to believe in him. The Dinos are hitting .294 with the most runs scored in the league, with over 6 runs scored per game. Conversely, the Bears lead the KBO in batting average at .298. We have the No. 1 and No. 2 offense in the KBO squaring off on Friday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium. There should be opportunities for runs in this one, with a nod towards the OVER.
