NC Dinos vs. Kiwoom Heroes Pick – KBO July 16, 2020

The NC Dinos and Kiwoom Heroes will wrap up their three-game series on Thursday. The Heroes are aiming for a sweep over the Dinos today. They were 5-1 and 7-4 winners the last two days over the first place Dinos. Despite the two losses, the Dinos are still in control, and have a 4-game lead on the Heroes.

Between the Dinos, Heroes, and Bears, those are three very good clubs that are going to have a good look at the Korean Series championship. One of them winning wouldn’t come as a surprise. The Heroes have largely been ignored throughout the season, but getting some more respect recently.

The Dinos haven’t looked like themselves over the last two days. They were rained out two days in a row, so didn’t have an opportunity to win the series against the LG Twins. The Dinos and Twins tied at 6 runs apiece before failing to get the series finale in. The Dinos’ most recent win was on July 10 in a blowout over the Twins by a score of 12-2. They are looking for a win today to avoid getting swept on the road.

Following this game, the Dinos will head home for two consecutive series at home against the KT Wiz and Samsung Lions. The KT Wiz series should be highly entertaining. The Wiz have been playing better baseball recently and swinging some hot bats, besides yesterday in a 7-3 loss against the Hanwha Eagles.

The Heroes are scheduled to give Moon Sung-hyun the starting nod on Thursday. He will be making just his second start of the season after spending most of it in the bullpen. The Heroes have been cautious with giving Moon too much work as a starter. He pitched 3 solid innings against the Lions on July 8, but he had a short cord and was pulled early.

The Dinos will counter with one of their aces, as Drew Rucinski is scheduled to pitch in this one. Rucinski joins Koo Chang-mo as a 1-2 punch in the starting rotation for the Dinos. Both have been tremendous for the Dinos this season. Head below for our free NC Dinos vs. Kiwoom Heroes pick for July 16, 2020 in the KBO.

NC Dinos vs.Kiwoom Heroes Prediction:

Drew Rucinski is in his second season with the Dinos and is building on the success he had in 2019. Rucinski was hot out of the gate with a 3.05 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 30 starts. Instead of sitting on that and not putting in the extra work, Rucinski has been even better this season. Rucinski heads into Thursday with a rock solid ERA of 2.24 and 1.10 WHIP in 12 starts. Since allowing 3 runs against the KT Wiz on June 23, Rucinski has surrendered 1 or no runs in three straight performances. In eight of his last ten outings. He is certainly capable of turning the tables on the Heroes and preventing a sweep. The Heroes will opt for Moon Sung-hyun on Thursday. On paper, Moon’s numbers look quite good. However, he only has 3 innings of starting experience in 2020.

The last time Moon was a full-time pitcher he looked horrible. Moon posted an ERA of 6.28 and 1.67 WHIP in 13 starts. Prior to that season, he had a 5.91 ERA and 1.69 WHIP in 17 starts. Moon got sent down after the 2015 season and hasn’t been active until now. He has a 1.46 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in nine games. That’s great and all, but who knows how long Moon goes here. Even if he pitches well, the Heroes don’t appear to be comfortable with giving him an extended start. Most of this game could be the Dinos against the Heroes’ bullpen. This looks like a nice spot for the Dinos to respond and prevent a sweep on Thursday.
