NC Dinos vs. SK Wyverns Pick – KBO July 7, 2020

The NC Dinos and SK Wyverns meet on Tuesday to get a three-game series underway at SK Happy Dream Park in Incheon. The Dinos continue to lead in the KBO with a record of 36-16 and a 4-game lead over the Kiwoom Heroes. They haven’t been as red-hot as they were earlier in the season, but the Dinos are still a dangerous team that can make a team pay for their mistakes. That’s exactly what happened on Sunday against the Kia Tigers.

After giving up 4 runs in the top of the 9th, the Dinos scored 6 runs in the bottom half of the inning to win 7-6. What a comeback it was and you could see the writing on the wall after the Dinos were cutting the lead down. It almost felt like a given that the Dinos were eventually going to comeback and win. No matter how big the lead is on the other side, it’s imperative not to give up on the Dinos. The Tigers got lazy and they received a loss for it.

The Wyverns are battling it out at the bottom of the standings with the Hanwha Eagles. They appear to be the two clubs that will be competing for last in the KBO in 2020. The Wyverns currently have a 3-game advantage on the Eagles. They head into Tuesday with a record of 16-37 in a search for an upset over the Dinos. Over the course of a long baseball season, upsets tend to happen, and the Wyverns have the Dinos at home with one of their ace on the bump.

The Wyverns are coming off a nice win on the road over the Lotte Giants, 6-3. That was the rubber-match, with the Wyverns getting the second win in three games over the Giants. Their other win was a 7-4 win in the series opener. The Giants responded for a 10-4 win on Saturday. In any event, it was a positive weekend for the Wyverns in a season where there hasn’t been too many positives.

It’s an uphill battle for the Wyverns in this series, but they’ll have a chance on Tuesday with Moon Seung-won on the mound. Moon has developed into one of the finest pitchers for the Wyverns, and now he gets to show his stuff against the best team in the KBO at home. Koo Chang-mo, who leads the KBO in pitching, will provide a difficult challenge for the Wyverns, though. Head below for our free NC Dinos vs. SK Wyverns pick for July 7, 2020.

NC Dinos vs. SK Wyverns Prediction:

Koo Chang-mo has people paying attention and not only in South Korea. There has to be some scouts from the majors examining Koo. He might not be in the major leagues next season or even the next, but Koo could very well find a way onto a major league roster eventually. That’s if he continues pitching like he has been in 2020. The former No. 3 overall pick in 2015 has an ERA of 1.50 and 0.76 WHIP in ten starts.

He’s allowed more than 2 earned runs in a game just once. Koo yielded 4 earned runs against the KT Wiz on the road. That’s really his only troublespot this season. Koo went eight straight outings with 1 or no runs allowed. He finished with an ERA of 3.20 and 1.18 WHIP last season, which was his best season yet. There were expectations for Koo to do even better than that, but most people didn’t envision him leading the KBO with a 1.50 ERA. Koo gets the worst offense in the KBO on Tuesday.

The Wyverns are hitting .241, which is a sliver below the Eagles who have a .244 batting average. The best hope for the Wyverns in this one is likely going to be Moon Seung-won. Moon was in the best form of his career last season, and just like Koo, has been able to build on it. In Moon’s case it’s to a lesser extent, but he’s still been great for the Wyverns. He posted an ERA of 3.88 and 1.13 WHIP last season, and is down to a 3.26 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in ten starts. Moon has given up just 2 earned runs in his previous 18 innings. Koo and Moon should be able to get into a bit of a duel here. With a total of 9 it’s a good number on the UNDER.
