Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears Pick – KBO June 16, 2020

The Samsung Lions and Doosan Bears will meet at Jamsil Baseball Stadium for the first game of a three-game series. The Bears are near the top of the KBO, as they continue to keep pace with the Dinos. They’re coming off a bad 3-2 loss against the Eagles on Sunday. In fact, the Eagles beat the Bears in back-to-back games in a doubleheader.

The Eagles were in historic levels for their losing streak, and were able to break out of it, and then win another contest over a good Bears team. I think that was a case of the Bears not taking the Eagles too seriously. The Bears are the better team, but let their guard down.

The Eagles are just 8-27 despite the two wins over the Bears. Conversely, the Bears are 21-13 on the season and going to be a major threat to win the Korean Series again. They are on the heels of winning it all in 2019, and going to be a contender despite a shoddy effort versus the Eagles on Sunday.

Back home for a series against the Lions this week, the Bears should be in better form than what we watched then. The Lions arrive at Jamsil Baseball Stadium with what they’re hoping for is some carry over effect from Sunday. They blasted the KT Wiz by a score of 12-0 for an impressive victory.

Everything was working for the Lions, as they played what was their best game of the season. Even though they put up 12 runs, the most impressive part might have been holding a good Wiz offense to no runs. However, the Lions can’t take a break now on the road. They have to deal with a dangerous Bears squad at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.

The Lions head into Tuesday with a record of 17-19. They are certainly a wildcard in the KBO this season. It’s possible they go on a run and get into contention, but I think an upset would be required in the playoffs for the Lions to advance far. They’re likely a bottom seed playoff team if they do get in, but let’s see where things go. Head below for our free Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears pick for June 16, 2020 in the KBO.

Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears Prediction:

The Lions will depend on Baek Jung-hyun to get them an upset on the road against the Bears. They will likely have to rely more heavily on their bats to get the job done, though. Baek has struggled and probably isn’t going to hold up well versus the Bears in this one. He enters with an ERA of 7.20 and 1.70 WHIP on the season. Before getting his act together against the Kiwoom Heroes in his most recent outing, Baek was hammered for 16 earned runs in 14 innings. He allowed 28 hits in his first three games of the season as well. After the Bears’ lackluster performance on Sunday against the Eagles, I’m expecting them to come home with a strong effort.

This is a perfect opportunity for the Bears to take their frustrations out on the Lions. That said, the Lions have been hitting the ball recently, and have notched 27 runs in their previous four games. Raul Alcantara likely has the upper-hand on Baek in this matchup, but I could see the Lions doing something against him and contributing to the scoreboard. Alcantara holds an ERA of 4.07 and 1.38 WHIP in 42 innings. He has allowed at least 3 earned runs in four out of seven outings. The Lions did pretty well against Alcantara in their first meeting in 2020, with 3 earned runs for a 4.50 ERA and 6 hits in 6 innings. Alcantara probably doesn’t get torched, but likely won’t get out of this without any damage. The OVER looks promising in this spot.
