Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears Pick – KBO June 17, 2020

The Samsung Lions will look to make it two in a row against the Doosan Bears on Wednesday. The Lions edged out the Bears by a score of 4-3 in an impressive performance on the bump. The Bears scored 3 runs between the 3rd and 4th inning, but that was all in the way of offense.

Surprisingly enough the Bears didn’t generate any more offense in that game. Credit the Lions for shutting the door on the road. Baek Jung-hyun held strong across 6 innings of work, with just 2 earned runs allowed in 5 innings. The bullpen was superb, as no earned runs were surrendered against the dangerous Bears’ bats.

The Bears are stuck in a bit of a lull at the moment. They were swept against the lowly Hanwha Eagles on Sunday in a doubleheader, and then fell in a winnable game at home against the Lions. Watch out for the Lions, though. They were slow starters to open the season, but are waking up in 2020.

The Lions own a record of 18-19 and might be better than advertised earlier in the season. It’s too early to come to any conclusions. That includes awarding the Korean Series trophy to the NC Dinos right now. The Dinos have been the best team in the KBO thus far, but a lot can change, even in a week.

With the loss on Tuesday, the Bears regressed to 21-15 on the season. They’re 2 games behind the LG Twins for the second spot in the KBO, and a 1.5-game advantage on the Kiwoom Heroes. The Heroes had a similar game yesterday as well. A winnable game was presented to them, but they were woefully inadequate versus the Lotte Giants.

The Dinos, Bears, and Heroes all lost on Tuesday. You are not going to see that happen too often, but three of the most talented squads in the KBO didn’t look strong yesterday. That could easily change today, though. The Bears will look to end a three-game losing streak on Wednesday.
Their most recent win was a 5-2 decision on Friday against the Eagles. Chris Flexen will be called on to prevent the slide getting deeper. Kim Dae-woo is expected to counter for the Lions. Head below for our free Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears pick for June 17, 2020 in the KBO.

Samsung Lions vs. Doosan Bears Prediction:

The Bears will turn to Chris Flexen to get them out of this funk. It’s just a small funk right now, but if the Bears don’t look out, this could turn into a bigger problem. Flexen might be the guy to get the Bears back on the right track. As a rookie in the KBO, Flexen has been strong with a 2.92 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in six outings. It’s only his first season in the league, but Flexen has been handling things well in South Korea. He has a nice offense to help him out, despite the Bears falling short on Tuesday. The Bears are second in the KBO with a batting average of .296 and 216 runs on the season. The Dinos are the only team in the league that have hit better.

For Kim Dae-woo, he is pitching well considering how things were going in previous seasons. Kim has posted an ERA of 3.81 and 1.35 in four starts and five appearances out of the bullpen. Prior to that, Kim posted an ERA of 9.54, 7.93, and 5.13. The vast majority of those numbers came from Kim as a member of the bullpen. In his eight-year career in the KBO, Kim has a career ERA of 5.91 and 1.64 WHIP. He took a loss with an ERA of 4.50 and 1.50 WHIP in his first start against the Bears this year. Expect the Bears to finally wake up and take care of business on Wednesday. Their bats likely get going against Kim to get out ahead and win by at least 2 runs in this one.
