SK Wyverns vs. Doosan Bears Pick – KBO May 27, 2020

The SK Wyverns and Doosan Bears played a tight ballgame on Tuesday until the bottom of the 8th. Down by 3-1 going into the bottom half of the inning, the Bears scored 5 runs to take a 6-3 lead going into the final frame. The Wyverns threatened to spoil the cover on the runline, with two runners on 3rd and 2nd and no outs.

They were able to get one runner home to make it a 6-4 game, but fortunately that was all the damage that the Wyverns could do. I say fortunately because we were on the Bears’ runline in that matchup. It was a close win, yet the Bears were by far the better team in that game and deserved that win.

The Bears’ pitching was able to keep them in that game without having things unravel. They kept things within striking distance and the offense was able to respond nicely. That brings the Bears to 11-7 on the season, with wins in three of their previous four games. Despite what looks like an average record, the Bears are still a team that others will have to be concerned with.

Doosan are the defending champs in the KBO after sweeping the Heroes in four games last season. It was the fourth straight season that the Bears recorded at least 84 wins, and in the season they didn’t get at least 84 wins, they won the Korean Series with a record of 79-65 in the regular season. This was a year after the Bears went 59-68-1, and two years after losing in the Korean Series in 2013.

The Wyverns are just trying to find some traction and pick up a few weeks to get some confidence back. Actually, the Wyverns haven’t had any confidence this season. It’s been since last year that they had any confidence. The Wyverns head into this matchup with a record of 3-15. It’s lonely at the bottom for the Wyverns.

They’re 12 games back of the Dinos for 1st in the KBO. This after going 88-55-1 in the regular season a season ago. They choked hard in the playoffs to get swept by the Heroes in the first-round. We’ll see if anything changes against the Bears on Wednesday. Head below for our free SK Wyverns vs. Doosan Bears pick for May 27, 2020 in the KBO.

SK Wyverns vs. Doosan Bears Prediction:

The Doosan Bears will look to do their best against Moon Seung-won of the Wyverns. Moon has been unable to get things straight thus far, especially on the road where he’s had plenty of problems. In two starts on the road, against the Kiwoom Heroes and Lotte Giants, Moon was hit with 8 earned runs and 17 hits in 10 innings. That’s a 7.33 ERA and 1.95 WHIP on the road for the Moon in 2020. His only bright spot was against the NC Dinos at home, where Moon gave up 2 earned runs in 6 innings. However, he did allow 7 hits and a walk, so he was fortunate to get out of that game with only 2 earned runs.

This is the seventh year for Moon in the KBO. He’s coming off his best season ever, with a 3.88 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. However, that hasn’t been the norm for Moon throughout his career. He has an ERA of 4.92 and 1.44 WHIP in seven seasons as a professional pitcher in the KBO. Last season hoped to be a turning point for his career, but we haven’t seen any indications that Moon is ready to become a consistent contributor. He took it on the chin in his most recent meeting with the Bears. Moon allowed 5 earned runs and 7 hits in 6 innings for a 7.50 ERA and 1.67 WHIP.

Yu Hui-kwan should be able to hold the Wyverns at bay in this one. The Wyverns are last in the KBO with a batting average of .233 . They’re last in runs as well, with 65 runs scored in 18 games for 3.6 runs per game. Yu isn’t the best pitcher, though he’s serviceable enough and has been pitching well. In his previous 11 innings of work, Yu has given up just 2 earned runs. Overall in 2020, Yu has a 4.20 ERA as he looks to build on a career-high ERA of 3.25 from last season. He should benefit from ample run support in this one. The Bears likely get another win by 1+ runs over the Wyverns today.
