The Chinatrust Brothers are looking for their third straight win after losing their first three matchups of the season. They have won by a combined score of 12-3 in their last two outings, both against the Uni Lions. Since losing a tight 7-6 contest against the Fubon Guardians in the bottom of the 9th, Chinatrust has had their pitching in order and hope to keep that going into Sunday. The Brothers are seeking their first championship since 2010.
They are seven-time winners, and have a decent chance of winning in 2020. In a league that has only four teams, everyone is alive. However, it’s not going to be easy to get ahead of the Rakuten Monkeys. They’re the juggernaut of the CPBL and not going to be an easy team to oust. After Rakuten, Fubon are likely the next best squad in Taiwan. Chinatrust has an uphill battle against those two efficient clubs, but it’s not going to be impossible.
Chinatrust might not have the offensive pop to keep up with the Monkeys, but they do have a couple of capable starting pitchers to throw at them. It’s going to be a fun season regardless. With only four teams, there is going to be a ton of sample sizes of head-to-head matchups to analyze. There may not be a full slate of action like in Major League Baseball, there’s typically two games per day, but you are going to get a lot of head-to-head stats.
The Uni Lions are likely going to be your bottom team in the CPBL. They caught fire from 2007 to 2013, and have been trying to get back to that level. It’s unlikely going to happen in 2020. Let’s see how things ultimately shake out, though. The Lions will look to get on track after losing four straight matches.
They were winners in the season opener on April 12 against Chinatrust, but have been floundering since. Uni need to get their offense going in the right direction. It’s been stale in their last three contests. Head below for our free Uni Lions vs. Chinatrust Brothers pick for April 19, 2020.
Uni Lions vs. Chinatrust Brothers Betting Odds:
Uni Lions vs. Chinatrust Brothers Prediction:
The pitching is not elite by any means for the Uni Lions, and they are likely going to have issues on the mound again Sunday. Ziquan Shi will be called on for the Lions. He is looking for a lot of improvements in 2020 after struggling to do anything in 2019. Shi regressed hard from a 3.86 ERA in 2018 to a 6.42 ERA in 2019. He also closed the 2019 campaign with a 1.54 WHIP and record of 5-8. Shi got plenty of work in warm up games with the second team, and he did not look any better than last year. In four matches, Shi got hammered for a 12.27 ERA and 2.52 WHIP in 14.2 innings of work.
I find it hard to believe that Shi is suddenly going to perform against Chinatrust on Sunday. The Brothers are feeling confident with 6 runs scored in their last two games. With the Lions struggling at the plate, if they can score 6 runs again, which they should be able to get against a struggling Shi another win should be in their future. Jose De Paula was unable to get the win in his first start of 2020, but he was sharp on the bump. In 7 innings, De Paula posted a 2.57 ERA and 1.00 WHIP. The offense couldn’t help him out in that outing, but that’s expected to change versus Shi and the Uni Lions. I’m on the Chinatrust Brothers to get the win and sweep on Sunday.
