Uni-Lions vs. Chinatrust Brothers Pick – CPBL June 7, 2020

The Uni-Lions and Chinatrust Brothers meet again on Sunday following a big win for the Brothers on Saturday. They pounded the Lions for a 14-3 win thanks to an 8-run 6th inning. That inning included a grand slam to put the Brothers over the top and in clear control. The Lions made it interesting for a little bit early on, but the Brothers responded after the Lions were getting close.

It was a good win for the Brothers, as they advanced to 18-15 on the season. They’re on the heels of the Rakuten Monkeys who have slipped to 19-12. In the early stages of the 2020 season, it looked like the Monkeys were going to run away with the CPBL.A lot has changed in two weeks. We went a while with the Monkeys being the only team in the league with a record above .500.

However, the Brothers have since made things interesting. The Monkeys will have to get their stuff together and stop relaxing. I think they might have taken a gander at the standings and taken their foot off the pedal. In any event, variance can be an ugly team for some teams. It was highly improbable that the Monkeys were going to be able to stay as hot as they were. They opened the season with a record of 15-3 and looked like the only competent club at that point.

The Monkeys are 19-12 now and the landscape in the CPBL looks a whole lot different. The Brothers have been coming on strong recently and are going to be a team that Monkeys must be concerned with. They’re on a four-game winning streak and have assumed the spot of the Monkeys as the hottest team in the CPBL. The Uni-Lions have just been unable to get their pitching straight.

It’s been a disaster for them, as they trail the rest of the clubs in the CPBL by a wide margin on the mound. The Lions will look for different results from Logan Darnell, but if the past is any indicator, then they’re going to be in for another long day on the bump. Former Seattle Mariner, who has been one of the best pitchers in the CPBL in 2020, Ariel Miranda, will get the nod for the Brothers. Uni-Lions vs. Chinatrust Brothers Prediction:

Ariel Miranda has to be one of the more recognizable pitchers in the CPBL. He made 40 starts in the majors leagues and four appearances as a reliever out of the bullpen. Miranda was part of a Mariners team that came close to the playoffs in 2016. Without Miranda, the Mariners don’t flirt with going to the playoffs that season. He has been fantastic against CPBL talent in 2020. In his first season pitching in Taiwan, Miranda has posted an ERA of 2.86 and 1.09 WHIP in eight starts. Miranda should expect to get solid run support against a Lions team that can’t seem to get anything going on the bump.

The Lions are last in the CPBL with 291 runs allowed in total. They’re the only club in the league that is going to eclipse 300 runs shortly. In 35 games, the Lions’ pitching staff has allowed 8.3 runs per game. Expecting anything to change with Darnell on the bump might be a bit unrealistic. In his first season in the CPBL, Darnell has been a mess with an ERA of 10.38 and 2.65 WHIP in 8.2 innings. He’s appeared in eight games, but hasn’t been able to get any further than 8.2 innings of work. Darnell is coming off a poor effort against the Monkeys, as they rocked him for 13 hits and 7 earned in just 4 innings. I trust Miranda and the red-hot Brothers more than I do Darnell and the Uni-Lions in this spot.
