Bulls Heat Spread Pick and Odds for Game 4

It looks like the season might be setting on the young Oklahoma City Thunder. Armed with a 13-point lead with less than five minutes remaining, it looked like we would be heading back to Dallas for an enormous Game 5, all square at 2-2.

Then the youthful Thunder showed their age, and the veteran Nowitski showed his brilliance. He helped spearhead the Mavs on a furious 15-2 run to close regulation and force overtime. From there, the deflation of the crowd; of their spirit, was too much to overcome, and the Thunder dropped a crushing second-straight game at home and now face a nearly insurmountable 3-1 deficit.

The young Bulls will look to avoid a similar fate tonight in Miami. Will they have a better result? Let’s build on our 5-2 record in the Conference Finals and get on to today’s free picks.

Chicago Bulls @ Miami Heat -5 (Total: 179)

For all the talk about the vaunted Chicago defense, it has been Miami turning up the Heat on the opposing offense. Chicago has struggled mightily to get shots in the fourth quarter of their last two games, and in some cases, to even initiate their offense, thanks to the lock-down defense of Wade, James, and Haslem. I think it is going to continue to be a mighty offensive struggle for Rose and the Bulls unless their perimeter shooting improves drastically.

I maintained from the beginning of this series that the Heat were the superior team, and now thanks in part to some energy infusion from Udonis Haslem, I feel even more comfortable in that proclamation.

When the game grinds to a defensive stand-still, as it has in the last two fourth quarters, the difference is simple – one team has three legitimate, creative, effective offensive options and the best big point/power forward/guard on the planet… the other team has Derrick Rose. It is as simple as that.

Rose has been getting his points. He probably will again tonight, but it is taking him 25+ shots to do so, not to mention about a half-dozen turnovers as well.

Factor in the home crowd advantage, the added incentive of watching Dallas go up 3-1, and the five point line seems slimmer and slimmer. I like the Heat tonight, and I like this series to go no more than six games. The end is near for the Bulls, just as it is for the Thunder. I like LeBron and company to show some of the killer instinct that everyone wondered if they possessed back in January.

PICK: Miami Heat -5
