The nation’s top teams, and the top challengers to the seemingly invincible Kentucky Wildcats, have all handled their business so far in their preseason tournaments. Granted, they’ve done so with varying degrees of certainty. Gonzaga capped off the Preseason NIT championship by covering, but still getting tested by St. John’s for 39+ minutes. The Johnnies, even in defeat, were another strong showing by the BEast in the early season.
Arizona and Wisconsin also won their preseason tournaments; the Wildcats winning a tight game over a very good San Diego State team and Wisconsin handling a strong Oklahoma team with surprising ease. Both have looked very good and even great at times, and they are certainly loaded with talent, but watching both of these teams play, did you ever once get the feeling they were as good as Kentucky at their best? And while I’m rooting for a good season full of exciting games, I sure didn’t see a worthy competitor for Big Blue.
Unless it is perhaps a different “big blue,” the Duke Blue Devils. Duke was one of the few elite programs that didn’t partake in tourney action this week, but with Wisconsin looming on the schedule Wednesday, we will get a great look at both teams in a BIG game.
Meanwhile, we only went 1-2 ATS yesterday to snap a four-day winning streak. Let’s start a new run today with a pair of winners.

George Washington Colonials vs. Seton Hall Pirates -3
This is a fantastic game that will go largely unnoticed today. But it is a huge opportunity for George Washington, one of the A-10 favorites this season, to grab a major conference win for the resume, while it is a chance for Seton Hall, picked near the bottom of the Big East, to move to 5-0 and continue the conference’s insanely strong pre-con campaign.
George Washington is 3-1, but their loss is to Top 10 Virginia, and they own convincing road win over Rutgers. Seton Hall is perfect, but played close games with Nevada and Illinois State. Today will easily be their sternest test of the season.
However, as balanced as the attack of the 24-win, tourney appearing, Colonials is this season, this is their first real road test. It’s proven very difficult this season to go on the road and beat quality opponents. I think the Pirates defend their home court and notch yet another big win for the Big East.
