We had another winning NBA night last night thanks to the Denver Nuggets doing what they always do; win at home. The win pushed the Spurs and Thunder into a virtual deadlock for the top seed in the West. It will be interesting to see what each team does and how hard they go for it in the final three games. The Spurs are still ‘trying’ but with Tim Duncan and Tony Parker on the bench in the final minutes, it’s hard to say it is San Antonio’s primary concern at this point.
Tonight is a light NBA schedule, but there is a pair of good games on TNT, especially the first game featuring the Knicks visiting the banged-up Bulls in Chicago. Let’s take a look at that game for our featured NBA pick tonight.
New York Knicks -4 at Chicago Bulls (Total: 190.5)
All the talk lately has been around Carmelo Anthony and his frantic storm to the lead in the NBA scoring crown, but somewhere lost in the excitement has been the overall leadership and play of ‘Melo – as well as the rest of the Knicks on the defensive end of the floor. We’ve always known they can score, but can they defend well enough to provide a legitimate threat to the Heat in the East?
Tonight will be an interesting litmus test against a physical team that has already snapped one epic winning streak this month when the Heat came to the United Center. The Knicks will be going for their 14th straight win, and don’t indicate any signs of laying down and resting players with the #2 seed still in play in the East.
Chicago’s injuries are well documented and could very well be a factor tonight. It thins out their depth and should hamper their defensive effectiveness. That’s not good news considering Carmelo Anthony has averaged 40.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and shooting over 60% from the floor, and seems hellbent on winning the soring crown.
The Knicks are playing like a team with something to prove, and I like them to try and one-up the Heat by doing something the Heat couldn’t; win in Chicago. A win tonight will cinch up the second spot in the playoffs and home court advantage over the Pacers assuming both teams advance. That is a HUGE move for a team that looked dead in the water just a month ago.
I like the Knicks tonight over a battered and depleted Bulls team, even laying the four points.
