March Madness 2010 Predictions:
First Round Upsets:
St Mary’s (10) over Richmond (7) – The betting line on this game actually opened up with St Mary’s favored by 1 point, but has since moved to Richmond being 2 point favorites. Richmond has some experience, and a solid defense, but they are not a good rebounding team. St Mary’s will be able to out rebound Richmond with 6 foot 11 Omar Samhan leading the way, and if the St Mary’s shooters are hot on Thursday they will pull off this upset.
UTEP (12) over Butler (5) – Fifth seed Butler comes into this game favored by only 2.5 points, and will be put to the test early in this tournament by a strong UTEP team that has only lost one game in the last two months. The Butler Bulldog enter the tournament on a 20 game win streak, but remember they are in the Horizon conference. UTEP has one of the highest ranked field goal percentage defenses in the league, which should give them a good shot at taking this game.
Siena (13) over Purdue (4) – With the loss of Robbie Hummel, the Purdue Boilermakers are only 4 point favorites in the first round. Recently projected to go as high as a number 2 seed, the Boilermakers have to worry about getting past the first round in this 2010 March Madness tournament facing a tough Seina team in the 1st round. Siena has knocked off Venderbilt and Ohio State in the first rounds of the last two tournament, and are looking to do it again this year. Siena has four players who average over 13 points per game. This could be the big upset to call in the March Madness tournament this year.
