Maryland vs. Duke NCAA Basketball Picks – Jan 26th + Bonus Picks

This Saturday can’t match last weekend’s college hoops slate in terms of spectacular games, but there is still a full afternoon of games with nearly 100 wagerable games taking place.  You won’t see many Top Ten teams squaring off or any fierce hated rivals going head-to-head, but there are more than a few good betting opportunities, so let’s dig in to an action-packed Saturday.

Free Picks:

Notre Dame -3.5 at South Florida (Noon EST)

If you want to use Jay Bilas’s favorite “transverse theory” than South Florida should beat the Irish by about30 points.  After all, the Bulls knocked off Georgetown at home several weeks ago and the Irish were just blasted by the Hoyas at home; ergo, no contest, right?

To quote another ESPN’er, not so fast my friend.  Notre Dame has laid a couple of clunkers and USF has snuck up and gotten a few people in the Sun Dome, but this is still a 10-8 team that owns losses to Villanova, Rutgers, Seton Hall and UCF.  In fact, the only win in conference they have is the 61-58 stunner over the Hoyas.

Notre Dame has some flaws, but they should still be able to get the win today in South Florida.

Free Pick:  Notre Dame Fighting Irish -3

Maryland Terrapins at Duke Blue Devils -12 (1PM EST)

Duke will be ready to bounce back after one of the worst regular season losses a #1 ranked team has EVER taken, but I am not sure 12 points isn’t being a little over-generous to the Dukies.  Maryland is a solid bubble-type team with some NBA talent in Alex Len and Dez Wells.

Duke has lost two of three, and granted they were tough road games against tourney teams, but it is also helpful to realize they have struggled a bit in the absence of Brian Kelly, who will not be suited up today either.

I like Duke to win, but give me the 12 points and the Terps.

Free Pick:  Maryland Terrapins +12

UCLA Bruins -2.5 at Arizona State Sun Devils (4PM EST)

UCLA has been on fire since the reinstatement of Shabazz Mohammad, and barring a Gucci backpack incident, should be a formidable opponent in the NCAA Tourney.  They have a chance to get right into the mix of things in the Pac-12 if they can complete the tour of Arizona road sweep today in Tempe.  They went into Arizona and handled the #6 Wildcats with ease a few nights ago.  I don’t think they’ll have many troubles with the Sun Devils either.

UCLA is substantially more talented than Herb Sendek’s squad and I like them to get another impressive road win today.  They have won 10 of 11 overall, including the road win at ‘Zona and a road win at Colorado.  They aren’t afraid to take the show on the road and beat good teams.  They’ve beaten much better ones than ASU…

Free Pick:  UCLA Bruins -2.5
