It’s a big day in college basketball, highlighted by the spotlight game of the year to day, #1 Michigan at #3 Indiana. So let’s try to follow up on yesterday’s 3-0 ATS NBA day with some nice Saturday college winners.
2PM EST: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6 at DePaul Blue Demons
DePaul gave their small fan base a little cause for optimism early in the season with a better than expected start but have since regained their standard position since joining the Big East; the bottom of the standings. A promising season has dwindled into a 10-10 mark and 1-6 conference record. Meanwhile, Notre Dame has rebounded from their home blowout loss to Georgetown with a pair of wins over bottom-tier Beast teams.
It doesn’t get much more “bottom-tier” in the Big East than DePaul. I expect Notre Dame to handle their business on the road today to get the win and cover.
Free Pick: Notre Dame Fighting Irish -6
4PM EST: Wichita State Shockers -1 at Northern Iowa Panthers
Northern Iowa went to Wichita to open the MVC season and got sent home with a 67-41 loss. Since then, they have gotten a few decent conference wins, but is still just 4-6 overall in conference. In short, this isn’t the Northern Iowa team we’ve grown accustomed to seeing the past few years in March.
Wichita State is fresh off a disappointing home loss to Indiana State, but then again, Indiana State has a nice battery of wins this year, including Ole Miss. I know this is a road conference game, but I don’t think NIU has gotten 28 points better in the last four weeks, and I’m pretty sure Wichita State will be focused coming off a rare conference loss.
Give me the Shockers to win on the road in a non-shocker.
Free Pick: Wichita State -1
9PM EST: #1 Michigan Wolverines at #3 Indiana Hoosiers -4.5 (Total: 142.5)
This is a tough game to pick, because both of these teams have some significant strengths. First, for Michigan, they are led by Wooden Award candidate point guard, Trey Burke. They also have an explosive offense with Hardaway, Glen Rice Jr. and a deep bench. They are very athletic and explosive and can definitely score points in bunches.
Indiana is much the same, only they are led from the inside-out. Cody Zeller is an anchor in the post who runs the floor as well as any big in the country, and Victor Olidipo is the best defensive guard I have seen on the wing this season.
Indiana goes from defense to offense faster than any team in the country, and they will get a rare treat tonight; a Big Ten team that doesn’t have a large vested interest in slowing them down. Expect the tempo to be fast and the offense to be flashy at times, and efficient nearly constantly.
I have a slight lean to Indiana at home, but wouldn’t be surprised if Michigan got ‘em – either way the five point line has me staying off this game. But I do like the total getting up near the 80’s for each team and pushing over the 142 total point mark.
Enjoy this game – this is about as good as college hoops gets before tourney time!
Free Pick: Total Points OVER 142.5
