Last Time Out

The Tar Heels went on a 17-0 run in the second half to subdue Charleston, 79-60, in Chapel Hill. The Cougars led 43-42 with 15 minutes to play before the Heels’ Day’Ron Sharpe had four points sandwiched in the run that featured a triple from Caleb Love and a conventional 3-point play from R.J. Davis. Carolina’s freshman class combined for 50 points, led by 17 from love and 13 points and 10 boards from Sharpe.

The Runnin’ Rebels’ slow start was the kicker in their 91-78 loss to Montana State. The Bobcats made eight out of their first 12 threes and took the lead for good at 11-10. Bryce Hamilton had a big scoring night for UNLV as he finished with 27 points. The Runnin’ Rebels accrued 18 turnovers as the Bobcats led by as many as 22 points.

Heel Hysteria

North Carolina Tar Heels LogoCoach Roy Williams comes off his only losing season at NC as the Tar Heels went 14-19 a year ago. They have a Top 3 recruiting class which figured prominently in their opening win. Senior Garrison Brooks only scored six points in the opener as he was 3-of-10 from the floor. He looks to rebound in a solid way as he is considered a leader and a catalyst for the Tar Heels.

Rebel-ion

UNLV Runnin’ Rebels LogoT.J. Otzelberger is in his second year of trying to rebuild the Runnin’ Rebels and bring them back to national prominence. That has been almost impossible as UNLV has never made a huge splash since then except for Lon Kruger’s run in the mid-2Ks. Bryce Hamilton is a big time scorer who could give Carolina’s defense problems as he is paired in backcourt with redshirt junior David Jenkins. Center Diong needs to be efficient inside vs. the Tar Heels’ Armando Bacon and Sharpe.
