Yesterday’s Gonzaga vs. Arizona game certainly didn’t disappoint. I had been billing it as the best game on the schedule all week and it ended up being two legit final four contenders squaring off for 45 minutes. We noticed a win with Gonzaga covering and they lead the game for most of the day. They took the lead 8 minutes into the first half and never trailed until the first minute of overtime. Despite Gonzaga’s ability to control the game, we almost fell victim to a backdoor cover, with three of the ugliest free throw attempts I can recall going wayward in the final 3 seconds.
Alas, a win is a win and we got to enjoy a great game from two teams I imagine we’ll be seeing play late in March. As great as that game was, the biggest college hoops story of the day came from Ann Arbor where the Michigan wolverines took one of the worst regular season loses I can recall in years. It’s one thing for a major program to drop a exhibition game or look shaky at the beginning of the season to an unknown opponent, but to lose at home to NJIT (you’re excused if you need to Google it) a month into the season is flat-out inexcusable. It will be interesting to see if UM quickly shakes off a bad day or it if portends trouble to come for the wolverines.
Let’s see if we can take our winnings ways into Sunday with today’s pick.

Today’s free pick:
San Diego State Aztecs -1 at Washington Huskies (Total: 125.5)
Good times keep rolling for Steve fisher and the Aztecs. The program he resurrected from the ashes just a decade ago is once again ranked in the top 25 and is looking fantastic with their only loss on the season coming from a single point from Arizona in Maui. Xavier Thames may have graduated but the Aztecs haven’t missed a beat. They’ve knocked off a good Utah team, beaten BYU and hammered Pitt, so they are already well-tested.
Washington enters tonight perfect and optimistic this the season they return to national relevance, however tonight is their first real test. They won tough close games against UTEP and Long Beach State, but haven’t seen anything like the defense the Aztecs are going to hit them with tonight. The Aztecs rank in the top 20 nationally in scoring defense (55.3 points per game) and opponents’ field-goal percentage (35.1). Expect them to make life very difficult for Washington tonight and to earn another win – even if it might be a little ugly,
