We went 2-1 ATS yesterday with a pair of easy covers in UCLA and Ohio State, as well as a disappointing no-show by Charlotte falling by twenty to Temple at home. It runs the winning day streak to six straight days, with a nice tidy 11-2 record during that span.
Today will be a little different than recent Monday’s in college hoops, as there is little debate regarding the top of the polls; that spots firmly belongs to Indiana. The real question is who is #2. Florida, Duke and Gonzaga could all make a more than reasonable claim, and they, along with Georgetown and Kansas can make legitimate claims to meriting a top seed were the tournament bracketed today.
Fortunately for us, it is not. We still have three weeks of incredible college hoops action to sort this big mess out before tourney time. Until then, enjoy the games, and let’s keep enjoying some winners here at thesportsgeek.com!
Syracuse Orange -1 at Marquette Warriors
Talk about no rest for the weary. Just two days removed from an emotion loss to Georgetown in the penultimate game in their storied rivalry, the Orange have to get on a plane and take on a very tough Marquette team who is a perfect 14-0 at home this season. The Orange are going to need a much better offensive effort than their 46-point performance against Georgetown Saturday (Otto Porter scored 33 himself against them).
Syracuse, despite the loss, still has the overall resume and potential to earn a #1 seed in March should they win out. However, with a loss tonight, perhaps a loss at Georgetown in a few weeks and a loss in the Big East Tournament could slip to the dreaded #4 line and face a much rougher road to the Final Four.
Marquette was exposed a bit this weekend as well, getting beat at Villanova (in a game that puts the Wildcats on the right side of the bubble with a little room to breathe for the first time this season). They are 10-4 in conference, just like Syracuse, but they have played a pretty soft schedule recently. They have wins over Providence (twice), Seton Hall, USF, and Providence in their last eight games.
It is a daring pick, going against the Warriors and their perfect home record, but I think Syracuse is the better team and will bounce back tonight on the road. Look for Michael Carter-Williams to play well and for Syracuse to exploit their inside advantages tonight.
Give me the ‘Cuse in a huge road win tonight.
