It’s time to start finding out who is for real in college hoops. Say what you will about the regular season lacking the same meaning of other sports, but one thing that is splendid about college basketball is that you actually get to SEE the best teams play each other in a ton of different iterations. There are three absolutely fantastic games this week; the first we’ve already seen, as Duke looked title-worthy going into Madison and the Kohl Center and acing their test against the Badgers (who looked Final Four worthy themselves, despite the ten point loss. They didn’t play poorly as much as Duke was amazing). Saturday we get to find out a little more about two other Final Four contenders in Arizona and Gonzaga.
Arizona, or the “other Wildcats” (which makes Villanova the “other-other Wildcats”) entered the season ranked #2, but haven’t looked anywhere close to Kentucky through the early part of the season. They will take on Gonzaga, my sleeper Final Four team and one of my top Vegas values preseason who HAS looked like an elite team so far, but will play undoubtedly their toughest test of the season in Arizona.
And lastly, the marquee matchup tonight. The Texas Longhorns, ranked sixth in the country and full of talent head to Rupp Arena to take on a team that some are positing to be the most dominant since 1990 UNLV. So do Rick Barnes and company have any shot??
Let’s dive inside tonight’s marquee matchup and see if we can walk away with a winning wager…

Today’s Free Pick:
Texas Longhorns @ Kentucky Wildcats -11
One Big 12 contender has already taken on Kentucky. And they walked off a neutral floor with 40 points scored and a 32-point loss. Another gets the same opportunity tonight inside the electric confines of Rupp Arena.
Eleven points is a ton to lay, but it speaks to the depth, dominance and seeming invulnerability of Kentucky this season. I am not a big fan of laying that enormous amount of points against a quality opponent, but it would be more surprising if this game was close than if Kentucky blew them out. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kentucky loses a game this year, but I think it is going to have to be a game where the Cats are sleepwalking. I expect them to get UP for Texas tonight, to get up for Louisville, Florida and North Carolina. If anyone is going to get them, it will be because Kentucky basically “lets” them.
Eleven points is a ton, but I think 50 points scores might FEEL like a ton for the Longhorns. Look for Kentucky to put the clamps down and for long scoreless stretches in this game. The UNDER is WAY too high at 135.5.
***EDITORS NOTE FROM KEVIN: Hey everyone Chris went for a small surgery today so he had wrote this article up last night and didn’t have the proper line, as it opened at 122 and not 135.5. Sometimes small sportsbooks open their lines first with low limits and are way off, and that might of been the case here. Anyways you can play the Under if you like, or just make it a no play since the total is 13 points lower than when he made the pick.
