2019 NCAAF Power Rankings – Week 6

Alabama Crimson Tide vs Ole Miss Rebels - NCAAF Logo

This week’s AP Top 25 poll has seen a good amount of movement. Three teams fell out, while another four have jumped in after being unranked the previous week. The lower reaches of the poll remains a work in progress, but we are also starting to see movement up top.

Clemson survived a big scare this weekend, and they have surrendered the top spot to Alabama as a result. Disagreement among voters is rearing its head, as four different programs received votes for the top spot.

Naturally, our power rankings have shifted a bit as well. We’re in line with the voters in several spots, but we also have a different interpretation on overall strength in a number of other places. Let’s take a look to week 6 power rankings and don’t forget to check out our NCAAF picks section.

Alabama Crimson Tide Logo1. Alabama Crimson Tide

  • Record: 5-0
  • AP Rank: 1
  • Standings: 1-SEC West

According to AP voters, the Crimson Tide are now the top team in the nation. We concur. The team has yet to be challenged while ripping off five consecutive double-digit victories. While it’s true that the team hasn’t faced a murderer’s row of opponents, they’re still getting the job done whenever they step on the field. Alabama is off this weekend in advance of a trip to Texas A&M.

Clemson Tigers Logo2. Clemson Tigers

  • Record: 5-0
  • AP Rank: 2
  • Standings: 1-ACC Atlantic

The Tigers escaped North Carolina with a 1-point victory after entering as 27.5-point favorites. A win is a win, but it serves as the latest sign that this year’s Clemson squad is not quite as dominant as previous iterations. Trevor Lawrence hasn’t taken a leap forward, and his odds to win the Heisman Trophy have plummeted as a result. The team gets this weekend off before a home date with Florida State.

Ohio State Buckeyes Logo3. Ohio State Buckeyes

  • Record: 5-0
  • AP Rank: 4
  • Standings: 1-B10 East

The Buckeyes check in at #4 in the latest poll, but seven voters view them as the top program in the nation at the present time. If Ohio State continues to perform at such a high level, that number will continue to grow. The team was favored by 17 points for Saturday night’s road tilt with Nebraska. They proceeded to destroy the Cornhuskers to the tune of 48-7.

Georgia Bulldogs Logo4. Georgia Bulldogs

  • Record: 4-0
  • AP Rank: 3
  • Standings: 2-SEC East

The last time we saw the Bulldogs, they received all they could handle from visiting Notre Dame. The club had this past weekend off after the 6-point win, and they now prepare for SEC play the rest of the way. A trip to Tennessee is on tap for this weekend, followed by two at home versus South Carolina and Kentucky. Afterwards, it’s a showdown with Florida to help decide the SEC East.

Oklahoma Sooners Logo5. Oklahoma Sooners

  • Record: 4-0
  • AP Rank: 6
  • Standings: 1-B12

The Sooners offense is ranked 2nd in the nation with an average of 55.5 points per game. The defense has shown improvement over last year’s unit, but some potential shootouts are looming as Big 12 play heats up. Jalen Hurts is one of the clear leaders for Heisman Trophy consideration with 17 total scores.

LSU Tigers Logo6. LSU Tigers

  • Record: 4-0
  • AP Rank: 5
  • Standings: 2-SEC West

The Tigers have themselves a Heisman contender as well in Joe Burrow, who has a ridiculous 80.6 completion percentage and 18 total TDs. The defense brings plenty to the table as well, which makes LSU a dangerous team to contend with in the loaded SEC West.

Auburn Tigers Logo7. Auburn Tigers

  • AP Rank: 7
  • Standings: 1-SEC West

As we head into October, Auburn remains undefeated and has been one of the most impressive stories of the season. It all started with a come from behind win over Oregon, and the team hasn’t looked back since. On Saturday, the Tigers clobbered visiting Mississippi State by a score of 56-23.

  • Standings: 1-B10 West

A week after destroying visiting Michigan, the Badgers had a much tougher go of things with visiting Northwestern. They got the job done in the proverbial letdown spot, walking away with a 24-15 win. They’ll be home to play Kent State this week with current lines having Wisconsin favored by 36.5 points.

Florida Gators Logo9. Florida Gators

  • Record: 5-0
  • AP Rank: 10
  • Standings: 1-SEC East

  • Record: 3-1
  • AP Rank: 11
  • Standings: 1-B12

After dropping a 7-point home decision to LSU, the Longhorns bounced back for two straight wins. The team may not be ready for a playoff spot, but they’ll be a huge factor in the Big 12. A trip to West Virginia is up next, followed by the annual showdown with Oklahoma.

Oregon Ducks Logo12. Oregon Ducks

  • AP Rank: 13
  • Standings: 1-P12 North

The opening week loss to Auburn was a heartbreaker, but the Ducks have put that behind them with three straight wins. The Pac-12 is too close to call this early, and it looks like it’ll remain that way until deep in the year. Oregon welcomes a tough Cal team to town this weekend.
