On January 9, 2022, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will announce the 79th Annual Golden Globe Awards winners.
The event will be held at the Beverly Hilton as usual but in a substantially scaled-down form. Additionally, NBC has chosen not to broadcast the 2022 Golden Globes.
So, if you’re looking to draw any entertainment at all from the award show season’s opening event, you better wager on this year’s Golden Globes! Because you’re not getting any suspenseful envelope opening or impassioned speeches about the celebrity cause du jour.
Fortunately, the best entertainment betting sites never take a year off, regardless of public controversies. They just factor the changing conditions into the odds.
That’s precisely what MyBookie has done for the 2022 Golden Globe Awards – and why we’re using their numbers for this series of betting previews.

2022 Golden Globe Awards – Best Actress (Drama)
Best Actress (Drama) | Betting Odds |
Kristen Stewart (Spencer) | -200 |
Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter) | +550 |
Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos) | +600 |
Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye) | +700 |
Lady Gaga (House of Gucci) | +900 |
- 2019 – Glenn Close (The Wife)
- 2020 – Renee Zellweger (Judy)
- 2021 – Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holliday)
Last week, Kristen Stewart was one of the most heavily favored nominees in all Golden Globes betting categories. Her odds have since dropped from –400 to –200 – she’s still the favorite, but not by much. That’s probably the smart play by MyBookie’s oddsmakers; on paper, Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama is one of the award show’s most competitive groups.
Stewart has been showered with praise for her role as Princess Di in Spencer. By all accounts, it was the best performance of the actress’ career and the most accurate portrayal of the late Diana.
During the media rounds, Stewart detailed the extensive language training she underwent to embody the former Princess, and the critics appreciated the fruits of that labor.
However, audiences haven’t been thrilled with the movie as a whole. Kristen Stewart’s nomination is Spencer’s one chance to win a Golden Globe. That might hurt her odds of winning an award voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, a group known for being influenced by public sentiment and hype.
Both Nicole Kidman and Jessica Chastain represent good value for bettors open to taking some chances on underdogs. The latter has received rave reviews for her role as Tammy Faye Bakker, the late ex-wife of disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker, in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
By the way, the other two actresses in this category have a shot at winning too.
- Olivia Coleman is a proven favorite of the HFPA voters with three Golden Globe Awards to her name.
- Then you have Lady Gaga, who is insanely talented and getting high marks for her performance in House of Gucci – a topic one might expect to be close to the hearts of the voters.
2022 Golden Globe Awards-Best Actress Musical/Comedy
Best Actress (Musical/Comedy) | Betting Odds |
Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) | -130 |
Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza) | +110 |
Jennifer Lawrence (Don’t Look Up) | +1000 |
Marion Cotillard (Annette) | +2000 |
Emma Stone (Cruella) | +2500 |
- 2019 – Olivia Coleman (The Favourite)
- 2020 – USA Awkwafina (The Farewell)
- 2021 – Rosamund Pike (I Care a Lot)
The Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical is a two-woman race. Rachel Zegler, the 20-year-old star of Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of West Side Story, is rightfully the favorite.
The musical — in which Zegler played Maria Vasquez — is the ideal film for awards show season.
- Critics and voters adore musicals as it is, and this particular adaptation addresses racial issues that are very much on-narrative at the moment.
- After the controversy over the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s lack of diversity, I’d be shocked if they overlooked Rachel Zegler. She has both the onscreen performance and intangibles on her side.
If Zegler does lose, it will be because the voters went with Alana Haim, the star of Paul Thomas Anderson’s comedy, Licorice Pizza.
Best known for her band Haim, the actress has received glowing critical acclaim for her role in the film. The Hollywood Reporter’s David Rooney described her as “an incandescent presence that marks the arrival of a fully formed screen star.”
2022 Golden Globe Awards – Best Supporting Actress
Best Supporting Actress | Betting Odds |
Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) | +110 |
Caitriona Balfe (Belfast) | +240 |
Kirsten Dunst (The Power of the Dog) | +350 |
Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard) | +600 |
Ruth Negga (Passing) | +1400 |
- 2019 – Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk)
- 2020 – Laura Dern (Marriage Story)
- 2021 – Jody Foster (The Mauritanian)
West Side Story is going to clean up this year. And it starts with the 2022 Grammy Awards.
DeBose is also bringing the buzz.
She’s being lauded by critics as “Hollywood’s newest breakout star” and has been tapped to host Saturday Night Live on January 15.
The Golden Globes won’t miss this opportunity to hop on the bandwagon.
Best Actress in A TV Series – Musical/Comedy
Best Actress in a TV Series (Musical/Comedy) | Betting Odds |
Jean Smart (Hacks) | -300 |
Issa Rae (Insecure) | +300 |
Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) | +800 |
Elie Fanning (The Great) | +1500 |
Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) | +2000 |
- 2019 – Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)
- 2020 – Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag)
- 2021 – Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek)
Jean Smart is poised to continue her streak of awards shows success for her lead role in Hacks.
Smart plays Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas stand-up comedienne navigating the later stages of her career. She’s won a Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement in a Comedy and a 2021 Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.
Jean Smart will add one more trophy to the collection on Sunday.
Best Actress in A TV Series – Drama
Best Actress in a TV Series (Drama) | Betting Odds |
MJ Rodriguez (Pose) | -150 |
Christine Baranksi (The Good Fight) | +250 |
Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) | +500 |
Uzo Aduba (In Treatment) | +800 |
Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show) | +1200 |
- 2019 – Sandra Oh (Killing Eve)
- 2020 – Olivia Coleman (The Crown)
- 2021 – Emma Corrin (The Crown)
I won’t pretend to have seen a single one of these shows. However, I compiled a list of roughly a dozen 2022 Grammy Awards predictions by so-called entertainment experts, and every one of them had MJ Rodriguez winning this category. Considering everyone is so confident in her selection, the favorite still offers quite a bit of value at –150 odds.
Best Supporting Actress Series, Miniseries, TV Film
Best Supporting Actress in a Series, Miniseries, TV Film | Betting Odds |
Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus) | +100 |
Sarah Snook (Succession) | +200 |
Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) | +250 |
Andie MacDowell (Maid) | +1200 |
Kaitlyn Dever (Dopesick) | +1400 |
- 2019 – Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects)
- 2020 – Patricia Arquette (The Act)
- 2021 – Gillian Anderson (The Crown)
I cannot be impartial when Ted Lasso is involved. I’m going all-in on Hannah Waddingham, who is phenomenal as Rebecca, the owner of AFC Richmond, the English Premier League squad that hired Ted Lasso to be its manager.
She frequently steals the show and has already received the 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and the 2021 Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for the character for her efforts.
The critics love Jennifer Coolidge, who is apparently hilarious in The White Lotus, but I haven’t seen it. That said, it’s always nice when you can bet the favorite at even money.
