6 Reasons to Try Daily Fantasy Sports Today

DFS Betting Background

Recent years have seen the rise of legalized sports gambling. What once could only legally take place in a sportsbook located in a casino in Las Vegas is now offered in the palm of your hand at all times (in most states). With that being said, legalization isn’t the only newsworthy happening in the gambling world over the past couple of years.

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS for short) has taken off in a way that proves one thing above all: Sports fans think they have GM skills that rival any of the pros.

In this article, I’ll lay out six reasons why you should give daily fantasy a try.

1. It’s Got Something for Everyone

Whether you love to gamble, love fantasy sports, or just appreciate having some skin in the game, daily fantasy has something all sports fans can enjoy.

Not only do the two major DFS platforms DraftKings and FanDuel allow you to risk as much or as little money as you want, but it has different types of games to appease those with different levels of risk tolerance.

For Example:
Some games require players to finish in the top 5 percentile in order to win money, while others only require players to finish in the top 50% of all competitors.

In the example above, the 5-percentile option would result in a much higher payout (obviously). But for players who are more concerned with simply winning some money, the other option is preferable.

In this way, DFS platforms are presenting a range of different options that allow fans of all sized bankrolls to get in on the action.

Additionally, there are a number of different types of games available so that you never get bored with the same routine. Whether you’re new to daily fantasy or an experienced player who has been in the game for years, there’s always something fresh to keep things interesting.

2. You Have (More) Control

When betting on sports in the traditional way (spreads, moneyline, totals, etc.), your fate is in the hands of the teams you bet on. Now, I suppose the same could be said about daily fantasy (your fate is in the hands of the players you bet on), but you have much more control when you’re the one setting the lineup.

Just like in your fantasy football league, those who do the work are rewarded. Though it’s ultimately settled by the performance of the players on the court or field, the difference between winning money and losing money comes down to the research you put in before selecting your team.

Please Note:
Of course, there are going to be games where you get lucky (and unlucky). But over the course of dozens or more contests, you’ll realize that the more effort you put in, the better your results will be. If you’re unfamiliar with how daily fantasy drafts work, it’s a fairly simple concept, but the strategy itself is much more nuanced.

When you enter a contest, you’ll be given a total “payroll” that you allocate amongst your team. Just as in real life, your top two or three players are going to account for a significant amount of your payroll. Once you’ve selected your stars, the real work comes with picking the right “role players” to round out your roster.

While there are a number of different draft strategies, one thing is certain—the best GMs know how to find inexpensive players who put up big numbers. This is why it’s imperative that you do your homework and evaluate the matchups before locking in your lineup for the contest.

3. It’s Legal Almost Everywhere

Yes, it’s true that sports betting is on its way to become legalized in all 50 states, but for the time being, a significant percentage of the country still has to jump through many hoops to get paid.

Perhaps it’s a loophole in and of itself, but those behind the scenes at the most popular daily fantasy companies have lobbied for the legality of DFS with a good deal of success.

In nearly all states (MT and AZ being exceptions), it’s 100% legal to gamble via daily fantasy platforms.

It might not sound like a huge deal, but anyone who has tried to gamble in a state where it’s still illegal knows that getting paid out after winning is a headache. Getting paid out in a reasonable amount of time with little to no hassle?

That’s just not going to happen with traditional sports gambling.

Personally, I don’t truly understand the rationale behind why the financial side of DFS is so much easier than regular sports betting, but for now, it’s just the way it is. If you’re the type of person who places a high priority on seeing your winnings in your bank account quickly, DFS is about as easy as it gets.

4. It Gives You Low-Risk, High-Reward Opportunities

One of my personal favorite aspects of daily fantasy is that you can win huge amounts of money without having to take big financial risks. For example, DFS platforms frequently offer contests that have prizes in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, and occasionally even more.

Obviously, these contests receive a high volume of entries so they’re exponentially more difficult to win than the contests you’d typically be entering, but the rules are the same for everyone, and somebody has to win.

Please Note:
The vast majority of gamblers who bet on sports simply aren’t going to put up enough money to even have a chance at winning tens of thousands of dollars on a single play. While you might see headlines about someone winning a huge amount on a game, these aren’t your “average Joe” gamblers.

While those commercials that showcase regular people who have won life-changing amounts of money by playing daily fantasy can leave some people feeling a bit skeptical, there’s no evidence suggest it isn’t true.

The bottom line is that if you’re interested in having the chance to win big without risking big, daily fantasy is the best way to go.

5. Generous Bonuses

Most online gambling platforms offer bonuses, but they often make it too complicated to claim that bettors decide it just isn’t worth the time or the effort. With DFS bonuses, it’s as easy as it could possibly be to take advantage.

Daily fantasy platforms are competing to be the leader in the space and are willing to offer serious incentives to both new players and experienced players to keep them coming back for more. That means free credit to use toward contests of your choice or even free entry into contests that can be worth tens of thousands of dollars to the top performers. That means no risk, all reward.

Bonuses vary significantly based on the amount of money you wager and how frequently you play, but they’re beneficial in all cases.

6. Every Day Is a Fresh Start

If you’ve played fantasy football for years, you’ve likely experienced the pain of being out of the running after the first half of the season. Each week, you set your lineup and try to make the right moves, but you’re simply going through the motions. After weeks and weeks, this futile attempt can leave you feeling fed up with the whole thing.

Perhaps, the number one advantage daily fantasy has over traditional fantasy sports is that you have a new opportunity to win every single day.

Sometimes, you do the necessary research, put together a well-thought-out roster, and still come up empty. DFS allows you to have the opportunity to win it all back (and then some) the next night.

I’ll admit, I was a bit apprehensive when I first signed up for daily fantasy. I expected the process to be complicated, but was proven wrong almost instantly.

Within a matter of minutes I had signed up, made a deposit, and was already putting together my roster for an NBA contest taking place that night. I went in skeptical but became a believer after giving it a try.

If you’re looking for a fun change up from the usual fantasy or handicapping, DFS is the way to go.
