BKFC 23 Main Event Odds and Prediction: Richman vs Rickels

Fighter  Mike Richman  David “The Caveman” Rickels
Money Line -225 +166
Bare Knuckle Record  2-0, 1NC  2-0
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  11
Career Times Knocked Out  1 4

Rickels had a much more successful MMA career, but took some brutal beatings in Bellator including two TKO losses at the hands of Michael Chandler. Richman is the much bigger man. That no contest on his bare knuckle record was as a heavyweight, and this fight is at 185. Consider that Rickels spent most of his career as a welterweight too small for the division. Richman is going to have a serious size advantage in the clench.
Rickels is yet to score a knockout win bare knuckle, and the majority of his TKO’s in MMA were a result of ground strikes.

Rickels unrefined style plays into the hands of Richman’s counterpunching accuracy.
Richman has the better chin, is two weight classes bigger, and the advantage in knockout power and bare knuckle accuracy. Our betting pick is Mike Richman at -225.

BKFC 23 Co-Main Event Odds and Prediction Doolittle vs Warren

Fighter  Isaac Doolittle Jared Warren
Money Line +140 -185
Bare Knuckle Record  3-0 3-1
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  1 3
Career Times Knocked Out  0 1

Jared Warren is an Indiana fighter on a two fight winning streak. My concern is that Doolittle has never been knocked out. He’s fought lower quality fighters, sure, but Warren has ended every fight via knockout win or lose.
Doolittle is currently training in Arkansas finishing up a Biochem degree. While that sounds exhausting, he looks to be in peak condition, a huge factor for bare knuckle fighting. Our betting pick is Isaac Doolittle. He should take Warren to deep water, and Warren has never won a decision in combat sports.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Hernandez vs Gregori

Fighter  Marciano Hernandez Jerald ‘The Grim Reaper’ Gregori
Money Line -1000 +850
Bare Knuckle Record  1-0 0-2
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  2 0
Career Times Knocked Out  0 4

This is our parlay pick of the evening. If you’re looking for some of our top picks to add to your parlay ticket, there are two great options on LFA 158
Hernandez is a professional boxer and had two fights with two knockouts. Gregori has only won fights as an amatuer, primarily by submission victory. He’s taking the bad fight choice in Hernandez. From a conditioning perspective, Hernandez is well above Gregori.
Footage of Hernandez shows exceptional understanding of boxing, with him and his brother being called “the Next Diaz Bros’ by several small MMA news production companies. Both Nico and Marciano are undefeated pros. Take the easy money on Marciano Hernandez at -1000, our most confident pick of our BKFC 23 predictions.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Lindsey vs Findley

Fighter  Jake ’The Librarian’ Lindsey Derrick ‘Superman’ Findley
Money Line -190 +145
Age 35 37
Bare Knuckle Record  1-0 0-1
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  7 3
Career Times Knocked Out  4 3

Jake has struggled in MMA, but his recent bare-knuckle and kickboxing outings have gone well, winning both bouts via knockout. The majority of Lindsey’s losses have been via ground fighting. Lindsey was active as an amatuer in 2007, and has competed in combat sports 30+ times total.
Findley is a 34-26-1 professional boxer. His last three wins were over boxers with losing records, and his first bare-knuckle match showed that he didn’t exactly understand what he had signed up for. Bare Knuckle training is different from normal boxing in many ways, specifically in how you block and condition your hands. Findley was capable of neither. His age is also a factor, though he’s only slightly older than Lindsey he is more worn down in the ring.
Our betting pick is Jake Lindsey at -190.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Link vs Pittman

Fighter  Jessica Link Crystal Pittman
Money Line -145 +110
Bare Knuckle Record  0-2 1-1
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  1 0
Career Times Knocked Out  3 1

Link has won only one of her six fights in amatuer and professional combat sports. She’s been knocked out multiple times, but she can box. Her split decision with Charisa Sigala is giving her the oddsmakers edge in this bout, but she was also Sigala’s first bare knuckle win.

Pittman has very little experience, but she’s only been finished via doctor’s stoppage.

I see an upset. Our betting pick is Crystal Pittman. She’s the tougher of the two fighters, and that grit should carry her to a win over Jessica Link.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Hermreck vs Morris

Fighter  LJ Hermreck Stevo ‘The Blessed Morris
Money Line +185 -250
Bare Knuckle Record  1-1 1-0
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  1 2
Career Times Knocked Out  3 3

Stevo has only fought as a professional in Bare Knuckle fighting. He currently trains in Florida at American Top Team and has for several years. The training he’s received there has leveled up his game significantly, as his original record was developed in Indiana training out of a garage gym and several other small schools.
Hermreck is coming off a knockout loss last October, but has an overall better MMA record, having fought together fighters. Hermeck has the better weight cutting and conditioning, and Stevo Morris has the better training camp overall.
After watching fight tape, we see Hermeck as having a serious advantage in physical strength and weight cutting. Our BKFC 23 betting pick is LJ Hermeck at +185, our underdog pick of the night.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Wilson vs Martinez

Fighter  Justyn Martinez  Chancey Wilson
Money Line -115 -120
Bare Knuckle Record  Debut 1-1
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  0 0
Career Times Knocked Out  2 3

Neither fighter has a strong advantage in the world of striking. They both have losing MMA records and no boxing experience to speak of, and both fighters have been knocked out about 40% of the time. Chancey is more experienced overall but is the underdog. Looking at fight tape gives us little to work with as well. I’m staying away from this competitive match up, but I do give Martinez a very mild advantage overall.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Moffett vs Soto III

Fighter  Shawn Moffett  Antonio Soto III
Money Line +120 -155
Bare Knuckle Record  1-0 1-0
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  2 2
Career Times Knocked Out  0 0

Soto is undefeated in combat sports, boxing twice with two knockouts and winning his BKFC debut. Moffett has a number of MMA losses, but they’re primarily due to submissions and ground based decision losses.
Moffett is a scrappy fighter, and his clinch fighting is perfect for the BKFC ruleset, but Soto’s boxing centered game is a bit too much for Moffett, I see another decision win. Our betting pick is Antonio Soto at -155.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Richey vs Randall

Fighter  Josh Richey Tyler Randall
Money Line +175 -230
Bare Knuckle Record  0-1 1-0
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  0 0
Career Times Knocked Out  0 0

Tyler Randall was a promising amatuer fighter who lost his professional debut last March. He won his BKFC debut in November. Richey has never won a fight, amatuer or otherwise. Presumably, Randall isn’t offered a more serious advantage because he’s never knocked anyone out and primarily relied on submission work in his amatuer career.
Still, fight tape shows better fundamentals on part of Richey’s opponent, with Josh Richey struggling to embrace basic boxing. Our betting pick is Tyler Randall at -230.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Licea vs Cutter

Fighter  Kenny Licea Noah Cutter
Money Line -165 +125
Bare Knuckle Record  1-0 2-3
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  5 3
Career Times Knocked Out  4 3

Cutter is less experienced overall but has far more bare knuckle bouts. Licea hasn’t lost in bare knuckle competition (having only one bout) and his most recent knockout losses are in 2017. Cutter has been knocked out three times in the last eighteen months, which is far too often for my comfort.
Our betting pick is Kenny Licea at -165, who will likely be the healthier fighter.

BKFC 23 Odds and Prediction Santos vs Villar

Fighter  Edmund Santos  Nick Villar
Money Line +125 -165
Bare Knuckle Record  Debut  0-2
Knockouts Total (MMA, Boxing, Bare Knuckle)  0 0
Career Times Knocked Out  0 2

Santos is a boxing amatuer who looks decent in the ring. He’s an endurance athlete and has performed triathlons across the US and Mexico. I think the oddsmakers failed to do their due diligence in diving into this fighter’s history.
Our betting pick is the underdog Edmund Santos. Bare knuckle can be a struggle for anyone jumping in form other sports, but Santos looks to have all the right pieces.

BKFC 23 Odds and Predictions Wrap Up

BKFC is something between boxing and MMA sports betting. You have to take a new approach to thinking about predictions, because we’re seeing this sport and its nuances develop before our eyes.
Bet cautiously on fights you’re unsure of, but do your best to take advantage of strong favorites, as many of the fights are heavily one sided.
