College Basketball Parlay of the Day For 3-10-22

What a glorious day we have in store for you, as we have nearly every major conference in action today as championship week rolls on. And it’s not just the big boys that are battling it out, as we have some small and mid-major leagues fighting for their right to party in the Big Dance next week as well, on what is a jam-packed day of college hoops action.

The games start early and run late, and if yesterday’s slew of buzzer beaters is any indication, buckle up, as we are in for a wild ride today! Highlight games on the day include Seton Hall and UCONN, Utah State and Colorado State, Indiana and Michigan, Iowa State and Texas Tech, and Virginia and North Carolina. With that, let’s jump right into today’s postseason edition of everyone’s favorite way to play, the parlay! Let’s get started!

Money Line Magic Parlay

Our money line magic college basketball parlay is a parlay that is made up of exclusively money line bets. Unlike point spread plays where a team has to win by a certain amount of points to win your bet, on a money line play, all your team has to do is win the game to get you paid. To make up for the fact that some teams are favorites and others are underdogs, you are going to either lay odds when betting on favorites or be paid out at odds for your bet if you take the underdog.

Nevada Wolfpack at Boise State Broncos (-260)

The top seed in the Mountain West Conference tournament, the Broncos of Boise State, play the Nevada Wolfpack today in the MWC quarterfinals. Boise State should be safely inside the field of 68 at this point, as they won the regular season title in the Mountain West Conference, but a win today against Nevada would eliminate all doubt as to whether or not the Broncos deserve to be dancing.

Boise State was cruising towards an at-large bid prior to the final game of the regular season when they lost on the road at Colorado State. It was the 2nd loss of the year for the Broncos to the Rams, and if you pull out those games, Boise State has a stellar 21-1 record in their last 22 games. For whatever reason, Boise State can’t find a way to beat Colorado State, but they are beating up on everybody else, and that has me loving them in this game with Nevada Reno.

The Wolfpack stumbled to the finish line of the regular season, as they lost their last 4 games, including a loss to this Boise State squad just over a week ago. Nevada took care of business yesterday, though, knocking off New Mexico in their opening game of the MWC tournament to advance to face the Broncos today. When I look at the full body of work for Nevada, they just haven’t been able to beat many solid teams. Against the national top-100 this year, the Wolfpack are just 2-16.

Those 2 wins came over Fresno State and Utah State, teams that won’t be playing meaningful games in March unless they can win this postseason tournament and snag the auto-bid from the Mountain West. Boise State started their season out slow with 4 losses in their first 7 games, but since then, they have played really high-level basketball, and their record during that stretch against teams ranked outside of the top-100, like Nevada is right now, is a perfect 10-0. Boise wins this game, and I am not sure it is even going to be all that competitive. Give me the Broncos to win and advance.

Maryland Terrapins at Michigan State Spartans (-135)

We will head to the Big 10 tournament for a game between a couple of teams that both badly need to find a victory. 7th seeded Michigan State will square off with 10th seeded Maryland, and this could be a game where the loser finds themselves on the outside looking in for the NCAA tournament, whereas the winner might be a lock to be dancing. That is especially true for Maryland, as the Terps have to win this game to have a shot of hearing their names called on Selection Sunday.

Maryland had a brutal start to league play this season as they went 1-6 in their first 7 conference games, and while they have played better in the 2nd half, they still have more work left to do if they want to get into the tournament. The Terrapins had won 4 of 5 before finishing up the regular season with a double-digit loss to Michigan State on the road. The only reason Maryland is even on the bubble is their strong SOS and the fact that they have 8 wins over the top-100.

Michigan State has had the exact opposite season, as they came out of the gates red hot, only to fall apart down the stretch, with a 6-9 record in their final 15 games. Two of those wins came over Maryland, and while I am always very leery of picking a team to beat a team 3 times in 1 season, as that is very tough to do, I have watched Tom Izzo dominate in March for far too long to expect him to lose this game that he really needs today. We are sure to sweat this game out as I see it being a tightly contested affair, but when all is said and done tonight, it will be Sparty that wins and moves on, effectively ending the Terp’s at-large bid dreams.

St. John’s Red Storm at Villanova Wildcats (-275)

The Villanova Wildcats are the higher seed in this game, but they are going to have a unique challenge, as they will have to play this game at Madison Square Garden, the occasional home of the St. John’s Red Storm. Technically this is a neutral floor game, but the Johnnies love to play in the Garden, and when you see that 12 of St. John’s 16 wins have been in the Big Apple, it explains why this line is such a tight one.

That being said, I am still a bit surprised that the Wildcats are being valued so low in this game. Villanova has dominated much of the Big East this season, as they went 16-4 in league play. Both of their games with St. John’s were competitive ones, but the Wildcats won each contest, and I just don’t see many scenarios where St. John’s can beat Villanova. This one feels like some low-hanging fruit, and I will take what I see as the far superior team at a reasonable price.

Game Total Parlay

Game total plays are commonly referred to as over/under bets because you are betting over or under the posted point total for a game. The game total is calculated by adding up the final scores of both teams. If that total score adds up to more than the total, the over bets win. If the total score adds up to under that total, bets on the under win. If the total score lands exactly on the posted total, all bets push.

Mississippi State Bulldogs at South Carolina Gamecocks Under 138

The Gamecocks of South Carolina have done a more than respectable job of finishing strong as they won 5 of their last 7 games in the regular season. They found ways to beat quality teams like Mississippi State and LSU by playing lockdown defense. The Cocks are ranked 30th in terms of defensive efficiency, which can sometimes be masked by their fast tempo.

I expect a lower scoring game today from USC, as Mississippi State actually plays quality defense as well, as the Bulldogs are 52nd in defensive efficiency. These teams just matched up 3 weeks ago, and we saw that stingy D from both sides, as the final score ended at 122 points. Kenpom has this game finishing at 136 points, and when I pair that with the low scoring game we just saw between these teams, the under on 138 points feels like a high value spot.

Oklahoma Sooners at Baylor Bears Over 133.5

We all know how physical the Baylor Bears can be on defense, but it is actually their offense that ranks higher, as the Bears can score the ball at a high level. Even when playing elite defensive teams like Texas and Kansas, the Bears can run up the score. When they played Oklahoma for the 1st time this season, they dropped 84 on the Sooners, so we know that they are capable of pushing this total to the over all on their own if they have to.

But when I see that OU is just outside the top-50 in offensive efficiency themselves, I don’t think that the Bears are going to have to do all of the heavy lifting, as the Sooners are going to get their points too. The rematch we saw in Norman was lower scoring, but I expect this game to go much more like that first meeting, where the game ended at 158 points. Give me the over as this is a sneaky good offensive matchup between a couple of efficient scoring teams.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Over 143.5

When I am looking at a team’s ability to score the ball, I break it down 2 different ways. First, are they efficient? Do they make their shots at a high percentage? Both in the paint and at the perimeter? And second, how fast do they play? Most people ignore the tempo side of this equation, and for me, that is the most important piece of the puzzle.

Both of these teams play at a fast pace, which means we are going to see a lot of quick shots go up. The more shots that go up, the more points that are going to be scored. Interestingly enough, both of these teams score efficiently as well. In this game, we have teams that are going to play fast and score efficiently, and that is going to make this game high scoring.

These teams played once in the regular season, and the game finished at 147 points. Kenpom has this one at 149 points, which makes this line feel far too low. I will take the over, as this one coasts to 145+ points and we won’t even have to sweat it much at all.

Oregon Ducks at Colorado Buffaloes (+105)

If you want the single worst betting line of the day, look no further than this one! Oregon has plenty of talent, that cannot be denied, but this team has fallen completely apart, and they absolutely should not be favored in this game against a streaking Colorado team. The Ducks lost 6 of 8 down the stretch, including really bad losses to Washington, Arizona State, and Cal. They did beat Colorado at home by 14 points earlier this year, but that seems like forever ago now, as Oregon can’t win for losing as of late.

Colorado was left for dead a month ago, but they have been tearing through the PAC-12 with a 7-1 record to finish the year. That run has put the Buffs squarely on the bubble, and there might not be a team that has a single win better than Colorado’s blowout win over Arizona in their final game of February. Winning in March is all about momentum, and right now, the Buffaloes have it, and the Ducks don’t. Colorado should never be the dogs in this game, and I love a play on them as they are playing really well right now.

Virginia Tech Hokies at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+105)

Virginia Tech probably shouldn’t even be playing in this game today, as they needed a buzzer-beater in overtime last night to beat Clemson to keep their season alive. I expect some heavy legs out of the Hokies today, as last night’s thriller had to be emotionally and physically exhausting. Letdown games are real, and that is what I see coming from Virginia Tech, as they are sure to come out flat today against a Notre Dame team that I feel is bring criminally underrated this season.

The Irish didn’t have to play yesterday, as they got a bye into the second round of the ACC tournament, and that is a major advantage for Notre Dame. The Irish didn’t play well in the non-conference, but they have more than made up for it in league play, with a 15-5 ACC record. The Hokies beat Notre Dame in Blacksburg, and with this game being on a neutral floor, I expect the Irish to even up the season series with the win.

Point Spread Plays

In this final section, we are making plays on the point spread. A point spread bet is the most basic of all college hoops bets. In order to cash a bet on the point spread, your team must cover the number. Like a team as a big favorite? You might have to lay a bunch of points in order to win your bet. Think the underdog will lose, but keep the game close? Then snatching up the points is the side you’ll want to be on.

Washington State Cougars (+9.5) at UCLA Bruins

Washington State is not a great team. But when they do lose, it is almost always a very close game. The Cougs are 10-6 in the second half of the season, and when you take a closer look at those 6 losses, they just don’t get blown out very often. WSU lost to Arizona State by 3, Oregon by 3, USC by 2, and Washington by 8. On the year, WAZZU has 13 losses, and only their loss to Arizona came by more than 10 points, and that loss was only by 12.

The Cougars have shown that they can hang with even the best teams the PAC-12 has to offer, and I expect them to hang around with UCLA in this game. The Bruins are a very talented team, possibly the most talented team in the country, but they have a tendency to play down to their competition at times, and they aren’t always great at closing out games. UCLA nearly blew a huge lead over USC late in their last game, and while they are going to be up double digits at some point in this game, I expect the Cougs to close that gap by the buzzer and cover this number.

Abilene Christian Wildcats at Stephen F Austin Lumberjacks (-1.5)

Stone cold Stephan F Austin will play the Wildcats of Abilene Christian today in the quarterfinals of the WAC tournament. Both of these teams were down some this year, as generally, it is either SFA or Abilene that goes dancing out of the WAC, but this year, it is New Mexico State and Seattle that are the top seeds in the league. But this is March, and anything can happen, and I actually feel like the Lumberjacks are the team to beat right now based on how they finished out the regular season.

The Lumberjacks hit this game having won 10 straight games, and with the Wildcats laying yesterday, they are going to have the much more rested legs in this game. SFA has beaten Abilene twice this season, and while both games were very tightly contested, I can’t ignore how well the Lumberjacks have been playing in the last couple of months. If it weren’t for their bad start to the year, we could be looking at this team as a potential at-large bid-worthy squad.

The same thing can’t be said for Abilene Christian, though, as their schedule has been very weak, and they haven’t been able to beat quality teams this season. The Wildcats don’t have a single win over a top-100 team this year, and while none of their losses are all that bad, if you want to be a team that is dancing in March, you have to be able to beat good teams. I have the Lumberjacks winning this one going away with a late push to cover and get us paid.

Sam Houston State Bearkats at Grand Canyon Antelopes (-3)

We will stay right here in the WAC for our final play of the day, in the game between Grand Canyon and Sam Houston State. Grand Canyon is the other team in the WAC that has a real shot at winning this tournament, as the Antelopes stepped it up late in the season to finish in 4th place in the league standings. Grand Canyon has won 8 of their last 10, so they have plenty of momentum entering play tonight, and just like in the game between SFA and Abilene Christian, the Antelopes got the day off yesterday, whereas the Bearkats were forced to play.

Now, to be fair, the Bearkats dominated their game against Cal Baptist, so they shouldn’t be too run down tonight, but back-to-back games are never easy. We only got to see these teams play once in the regular season, and that game was not what I would call competitive, as the Antelopes bashed their brains in, beating them by 26 points just 2 weeks ago. The venue will change, but the teams won’t, and I don’t see that change of location as being enough to close a 26-point gap. Grand Canyon is going to win this game, and it might not even end up being a close game whatsoever.
