College Hoops Parlay Of The Day 1-20-22

We got the money again yesterday, as we smashed our 3-team all-totals parlay for a juicy $700 payout! That play came in with winners on the George Washington Colonials at St Joseph’s Hawks Under 147, the TCU Horned Frogs at Oklahoma State Cowboys Under 135.5, and the Illinois State Redbirds at Missouri State Bears Over 145.5 and continued our absurd hot streak on all of our plays, but our totals plays specifically. The parlay wins are always the highlight of any day, but our straight bet record was again very impressive, as we finished up 7-4 yesterday, as we continue to connect on north of 60% of our plays this month.

Yesterday we found money line winners on Wake Forrest (-145) and Rutgers (+145) as well as spread winners on LSU (+4.5) and Texas A&M (+7.5). When you are as hot as we have been in the last several weeks, you want to make sure that you are finding ways to stay in action every day without pushing too hard. There is nothing worse than finding out your winning streak is over too late, and you lose everything that you won back. We will look to stay hot today, with everyone’s favorite way to play, the parlay! Let’s get started!

Money Line Magic Parlay

Our money line magic parlay is a parlay that is made up of exclusively money line bets. Unlike point spread plays where a team has to win by a certain amount of points to win your bet, on a money line play, all your team has to do is win the game to get you paid. To make up for the fact that some teams are favorites and others are underdogs, you are going to either lay odds when betting on favorites or be paid out at odds for your bet if you take the underdog.

Saint Louis Billikens (-140) at UMASS Minutemen

For our first play of the day, we will head to the A-10 for a game between UMASS and Saint Louis. This game is the first of a home and home series this week, as the teams will square off tonight in Amherst and then follow it up with a game in St. Louis on Sunday. All conference games are important, but at least on the surface, these games are going to mean more for Saint Louis than they do for UMASS, as the Billikens are sitting right above the cut line for the NCAA tournament, and if they want a realistic chance of hearing their names called on Selection Sunday, they must find a way to sweep this season series with the Minutemen.

The Billikens have 5 losses on the year, but all of them came to teams that should be playing meaningful games in March, and their wins over Richmond, Iona, and Boise State has Saint Louis feeling like they have a shot at competing at the top of the A-10 this year. UMASS hasn’t been good in a long time, and they are close to bottoming out this year, as they are 0-4 in conference play.

I am always a bit hesitant to take road teams in conference play, but UMASS has lost 6 of their last 7 games, and losses to bad teams like Yale, Weber State, Ball State, Northeastern, and Duquesne has me thinking that the Minutemen just don’t have the talent to hang with a quality team like Saint Louis. I wouldn’t want to lay a bunch of points in this game, so instead of betting the spread, I will take the Billikens on the money line as I see them pulling away late for a hard-fought victory.

Monmouth Hawks (-140) at Fairfield Stags

The Fairfield Stags are hoping to snap their 6-game losing streak tonight as they welcome the Monmouth Hawks to town. A soft schedule allowed the Stags to jump out to an 8-3 start to the year, but as conference play has started and the competition has gone up, wins have been hard to come by for Fairfield. The Stags don’t have a single win over the national top-200 this year, making a potential win tonight their best win of the year.

League play started out well enough for Monmouth as they won their first 2 conference games, but the Hawks have hit the skids recently, as they too are riding a losing streak as they enter play tonight, having lost 4 straight games. You never want to overreact to small sample sizes of data when handicapping college hoops. So, while the Hawks’s active 4-game losing streak is concerning, when I look at the whole body of work for Monmouth, they are the side to be on in this game.

Monmouth has played only 5 of their 16 games at home this year, as this team has been a road warrior squad. Road wins at Towson, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Yale, all teams that rate out as better than Fairfield, has me wanting to be on their side in this game. Iona is well on their way to running away with the MAAC regular season title at 7-0 in conference play, but if any team can give them a run for their money, it is Monmouth, as the Hawks are the second highest ranked team in the conference, according to Kenpom. We are going to have to sweat this one out a bit, but the Hawks are going to find a way to win this game in hostile territory.

UCONN Huskies (-310) at Butler Bulldogs

As we get deeper into conference play, we are going to start seeing a lot of rematches. Being able to see these games played out gives us the best data we are ever going to get to handicap the rematch, and in this game, these teams just played 2 days ago at UCONN, making their previous matchup very relevant to today’s game. In that game, the Huskies dominated throughout and eventually blew the game out by 17-points.

Home teams are always going to play better than expected, but even at Hinkle Fieldhouse, I am not sure that the Bulldogs are going to be able to stay competitive tonight. Butler has had one of the top home-court advantages in the nation in the last decade or so, but this year, we haven’t seen a lot of that Hinkle Fieldhouse magic, as Butler has home losses to Michigan State, Seton Hall, and Xavier.

UCONN has played very few road games this year, making it hard to know exactly how they are going to play tonight, but they did have neutral floor wins over Auburn, VCU, St. Bonaventure, and a true road win at Marquette, so the Huskies can win away from home. And that is just what I see happening tonight, as I just don’t think that the Bulldogs have the guys to hang with a far superior UCONN team. This game is sure to be more competitive than the game we saw on Tuesday night, but the outcome is going to be the same, as the Huskies are winning this game.

Game Total Parlay

Game total plays are commonly referred to as over/under bets because you are betting over or under the posted point total for a game. The game total is calculated by adding up the final scores of both teams. If that total score adds up to more than the total, the over bets win. If the total score adds up to under that total, bets on the under win. If the total score lands exactly on the posted total, all bets push.

Saint Louis Billikens at UMASS Minutemen Over 147.5

We already talked about this game above, and you know that I see the road team winning this one. I also have an opinion on the total, as I am surprised to see it so low. Kenpom has this total sitting at 156 points, suggesting that the opening line of 151.5 points was already far too low.

But the public didn’t see it that way, as they have hammered the under, driving the number down an additional 4 points. Fading ignorant public action driven line moves is my favorite thing to do when betting totals, and that is what I will do in this one, as I always want to position myself on the side of the data, not the public. Give me the over.

Charleston Cougars at Towson Tigers Over 146.5

The Towson Tigers are the class of the Colonial this season, and they are getting the job done by having one of the most efficient offensive attacks in the nation. The Tigers play a very slow paced, halfcourt focused offense, which can mask just how good they are at scoring the basketball.

I don’t think we are going to see a slow-paced game tonight, though, as the Charleston Cougars play the number 1 fastest pace of any team in the country! Even if Towson wants to walk the ball up the court, Charleston will push the pace faster, and that is going to lead to more shots and more points and should push this game well over the total.

UNC Wilmington Seahawks at James Madison Dukes Under 147.5

How can the public always get it so wrong? This line opened up at 143.5 points, and I guess you could make a case that it was a little bit too low, as Kenpom has the game at 144 points. But the public doesn’t understand the concept that too much of a good thing is never a good thing, and all of that action has moved this number to where it stands now at 147.5 points. That 3.5-point gap between the analytics and the line is where I will find my value in this one. Fade. The. Public. Take the under.

The Daily Dog

The daily dog parlay is a play where all we take are money line underdogs. Parlaying underdogs is the best way to rack up jumbo payouts on small upfront investments. Want to win a jackpot payout? Then parlaying underdogs is for you!

USC Trojans at Colorado Buffaloes (+120)

Are the USC Trojans any good? Coming into the season, the expectations were limited for the Trojans, as they had to find a way to replace lottery pick Evan Mobley, and the feeling was that this was going to be a rebuilding year for the boys from Troy.

USC came out of the gates blistering hot as one of the last undefeated teams in the nation when they were 13-0. That hot start was good enough for the Trojans to jump into the top-10 nationally. But in the last couple of weeks, we are seeing a different version of the Trojans, as they have lost 2 of their last 3 games, with both losses coming when they were heavily favored.

We are going to see just what the Trojans are made of tonight as they head to Boulder to play the Colorado Buffaloes. The Buffaloes are playing their best basketball of the season right now, with wins in 6 of their last 7 games. Colorado has been fantastic at home all season long, with a 9-1 record. The Buff’s only home loss came to a very good Tennessee team, and I smell upset tonight in Boulder.

I am by no means a USC hater, but I also don’t think they were anywhere near as good as they looked earlier in the year when they played a soft schedule and beat up on bad teams. Of the Trojan’s 14 wins, 12 of them have come to teams ranked outside of the top-100, and now that they are forced to play quality opposition, we are going to see the Trojan’s loss today continue to climb. Give me Colorado in a thriller.

Grand Canyon Antelopes (+100) at Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks

I love to fade the public on totals plays, and while we don’t get as many opportunities, as sides get more action than totals, making the numbers harder to move, the public stinks on sides as well. In this game, Grand Cayon opened up as small road favorites, and after the public backed the Lumberjacks in droves, we have seen this line flip, and the Antelopes are now road underdogs. I will get on the other side of that line move as I love that I can back the team that the data says is the favorite, as an underdog.

This play isn’t just a line move play as it passes the smell test as well. Grand Canyon is 14-2, and 4-0 in league play, and they have true road wins over Pepperdine, Loyola Marymount, and UT Rio Grande Valley. SFA has been an excellent program for the last several years, but the Lumberjacks are down this season, and they have yet to beat a single top-100 team.

They have been better at home than on the road, but they do have home losses to South Dakota State and Louisiana Monroe, and for my money, the Antelopes are better than both of those teams. I will back Grand Canyon as dogs and feel like I am stealing, as they should absolutely be favored tonight in Nacogdoches.

Point Spread Plays

In this final section, we are making plays on the point spread. A point spread bet is the most basic of all college hoops bets. In order to cash a bet on the point spread, your team must cover the number. Like a team as a big favorite? You might have to lay a bunch of points in order to win your bet. Think the underdog will lose, but keep the game close? Then snatching up the points is the side you’ll want to be on.

Seattle RedHawks (+6) at Abilene Christian Wildcats

I am going to be completely honest here, I am not sure I have ever once watched the Seattle RedHawks play a game. Seattle hasn’t sniffed the NCAA tournament in quite some time, and they get basically zero recognition outside of their conference. But under new head coach Chris Victor, the RedHawks are playing good basketball. Seattle is 13-4, and more importantly, they are 4-0 in WAC play. Conventional wisdom tells us that the RedHawks aren’t going to be able to hang at the top of the league all season long, but right now, Seattle is tied for 1st place.

Abilene Christian is the opposite of Seattle, as we regularly see the Wildcats in the Big Dance, as they have made the last 2 NCAA tournaments. But this year, they have hit a wall in conference play. The Wildcats had won 11 straight games prior to falling apart and dropping each of their last 4 league games. 2 of those losses have come on their own floor, including a terrible loss to Sam Houston State. My gut says that the Wildcats find a way to win this game, but in a spot where we have one team on fire and another in freefall, I will snatch up the points and expect an all-out war.

Boise State Broncos (+1) at Utah State Aggies

If you ask me, the Mountain West Conference is the most underrated conference in the country. The MWC currently has 6 teams ranked inside the top-65 on Kenpom, and I see this league as being one of the best mid-major conferences in the nation, trailing only the WCC. A couple of those talented teams square of tonight as Utah State hosts Boise State.

The overall strength of the MWC is displayed when you look at the Aggies record, as they played great in the non-conference, with a 9-4 record and top-100 wins over the likes of Richmond, New Mexico State, and Oklahoma. But in league play, the Aggies are just 1-4, including an unforgivably bad loss to Air Force. Boise State, on the other hand, is on fire right now, as they have won 10 in a row, and they are undefeated in league play at 4-0.

What has been particularly impressive about this Broncos run has been that they have won several of these games on the road. Boise State has true road victories over Cal State Northridge, Washington State, Nevada, and New Mexico. I think they add a win over Utah State to their resume tonight as they have caught the Aggies at the perfect time for an upset. While I do see the Aggies winning this game outright, the money line wasn’t paying a very attractive price, so I decided to grab the point instead. It doesn’t matter which way to bet this one, as long as you have Boise State winning the game.

Georgetown Hoyas at Providence Friars (-10)

I am going to only say this once, and some of you out there might think I am crazy, but the Providence Friars are the most underrated team in the nation, and you could absolutely make a case that they deserve to be in the top-10 nationally. PC has 2 losses this year, both coming to solid teams, and they just might have the best collection of wins of any team in the country. The Friars have wins over Wisconsin, Texas Tech, Northwestern, Rhode Island, Vermont, UCONN, Seton Hall, DePaul, and St. John’s.

At home this year, the Friars are undefeated at 10-0, and it’s not just that PC is winning at home, it is how they are winning that is impressive. They beat St. John’s, Vermont, Rhode Island, Saint Peters, Central Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Sacred Heart, all by double digits at home.

That is what I see happening again tonight as the Friars are going to maul the Hoyas. Georgetown shocked everyone last year when they made an improbable run to the NCAA tournament, but they haven’t been able to recapture that magic this year, as they are just 6-8, and they have made getting blown out a regular occurrence. PC wins this one, and it won’t be close.
